After two very difficult years during which my husband who works for a Chinese company (irony!) has been mistreated by his boss (in one word, mobbing) he is exhausted and dried up. The last call from his boss was like (it's the truth, I swear) "You have been very useful to us, but now we do not need you anymore". h\His contract will expire next year and will possibly will not renewed. we are both sort of desperate, he is 55, very much experienced and desperately looking for a new job out of this evil company. It seems he cannot. on the other hand I am developing a series of illnesses related to stress and I feel bad, because I feel like I have to help him and take the burden of his stress. I do not want him to feel alone, but God it's difficult, especially when I feel like bad and I cannot digets anything and I am losing weight. So I asked "what about us " and got hex 1 transforming in 47. I find it scary. what's your opinion. Oh, by the way, he is not the only one, but others seem to be able to go away more easily. thank to anyone who can help me understanding better. so far I am really afraid of everything.

You are (47) Dealing with Adversity.
"The superior man stakes his life on following his will." - Wilhelm
I see this as saying you must cast away all negative thought, and maintain your emotional balance and self-confidence.

1.The Creative gives you clues as to how you can do this:
1.1 Take your time to gather your strength. Don't immediately assume disaster lies ahead.
1.3 Stay focused on your goal and do what is reasonable. Do not run about trying to plan for every possible contingency. Don't stay up at night worrying.
1.6 Stay in the moment. We none of us can predict what the future will bring.

All together it looks to me as if the I Ching is addressing your stress and emphasizing that worrying about the situation will only make things worse. Indeed, if there is any truth to the idea that we attract more of what we focus our attention on, worry will only 1.Create...47.Adversity.

Thank you Rosada for your help. I think you are right but sometimes it's difficult (besides this problem we have other issues in both our families) to stay strong and, as you say, stay in the moment. This is something I should have learned after so many years of Asia but I am afraid I am still somehow very much "western" in my approach to things. Or only human, maybe. I asked the I Ching advice on how long this will last and the reply was 29 (hate this hexagram, scares me) changing line 2 to 8. I am not really understanding the how of this 8 which honestly does not seem bad. Anyway all what we have to do is going on and do our best and have faith (sounds very biblical, but I have faith in God and in the help of my father who passed away long ago. I feel him close to us and always tell my husband "He will look after our family"). thank you again for your time, and your help.

How long will this last?
Hexagram 29.2 > 8.
29. The Chasm describes a severe spiritual test. I think of the song, "You Have to Walk That Lonesome Valley" meaning you are in a situation you get out of by counting on yourself and line 2 says you will be successful if you strive to achieve small gains only. So you are not going to instantly turn your situation around but you will be able to create improvement over time. I think this means it is by you maintaining a positive attitude that you will be able to pull yourself out of the pits one day at a time.
It might be helpful if you consider the Image for 29. which advises that the superior man walks in virtue and carries on the business of teaching. That is, think of yourself as being a role model for others on how to survive and prosper by focusing on the positive. (I think of the expression, "Tough times don't last but tough people do.") 29. is made up of the trigram for water repeated twice so it is a feeling of rushing water. We cannot fight the rapids but if we are calm we can ride them.
