Hi, I am new here and very new with the I Ching.

I think I first posted the thread in the wrong section.

I woul like to know the advice of someone more experienced than me with the interpretation of the hex.

My question was related to a particular dream I had years ago, when my grandmother died, a dream that was part of a series of dreams related to the other world and the things she experienced by dying. Shortly, the dream was about me wanting to accompany her to her grave that was somewhere beneth a beautifully green hill - the dream was very colouful - and there was this fence with a door. she entered this door, but when I wanted to enter this beautiful dark horse appeared, almost crushing me if i had not closed the door on time. The question was what was this dream telling me?
I ching answered hex 11, changing line 3 to hex 29. The dream keeps comming to my mind as if I did not grant it the attention it required.

I would really appreciate your opinions. Thank you very much.

Hi arwen,

My own experience with bringing something from the sub/unconscious into the conscious realm - i.e. dreams into a conscious interpretation - is either spot on obvious (so obvious it's easy to overlook), or else it can only be interpreted symbolically and vaguely.

11 can be interpreted as a perfect union of those two realms.

Line 3 is sobering, shaking the lead out and getting clear perspective, taking into view what is far as well as near, stepping away from exclusive relationships to view relationships in a broader sense. It sits inside 11, doing an important job of creating impartiality.

29 is repetition of danger, going too near the edge, more or less. But that's how we learn, right? That's how we dispel old fears, or die tryin'. :)

Sounds like you two are very close, though a great abyss lies between you. That's how I interpret your dream and reading.

HI Arwen
From how you dscribe the dream it looks like it was a very powerful and long lasting experience for you, especially as it keeps coming back to you, prompting you to revisit it.

What was the dream telling you - first off the imagery that you use and the summary you have chosen to post tells quite a lot. A part of a sequence od dreams about death, this being a trip to the grave which was deep beneath a beautiful landscape. Your grandmother was going to show you something about this beautiful landscape and you are prevented, frightened off by a beautiful horse - at the time he would have crushed you and you have closed the door on the other landscape in self defence. Maybe the dream coming back is prodding you to open the door again.

As for the dream per the Yi reading - This dream had huge spiritual connections for you and whatever was going on for you at that time there was a need to protect you from going too deeply. There was a need for you to work inwardly on things - perhaps the ensueing period has allowed this to happen. There is a feeling that enough lamenting has gone on and while there has been a lot of soul searching, a lot of ups and downs that have allowed you to see so many things differently. Now you are in a position physically, mentally and spiritually to accept things that you could not then and allow the veil beween the two worlds to be raised.

Hi meng,

Thank you for your time and your interpretation.
As I told you I am quite new with the IC and I must have noted it wrong. Sorry.

I asked the oracle again about this dream and I've got hexagram 24 unchanging.
The question was "what does this dream mean to me now".

I know this may not be the best way to interpret the dream, but I really think it tells me something and I can't figure out what.

Thank you hollis for noticing the error.

Hi Mike,

Very beautiful interpretation, though i noted the IC answer wrong.

The dream keeps coming to my counscious mind, I do not dream about it anymore. Since it was part of a series of other related dreams, yes I believe they told me something, but at that time I was going through a rather dark periode of my life and could not understand my dream. I sort of postponed it for better days.

Now I am going through a reevaluation process of my life and self, and I stumbled upon this dream. It was the most colouful dream of all the sequence and a lot of feelings, sensations and thoughts were related to it. Your interpretation is quite precise, but maybe I should add some details, maybe you could help me more with my interpretation, although I afraid not to abuse of this site which is not a dream interpretation site.

I tend to interpret it as an attempt of my unconscious to communicate with my conscious self. But was it my uncounsciuos or the collective uncounscious. In another dream I remember I asked her a proof of the fact that I am speaking to her and this is not simply my immagination or my way of dealing with her death. She said she will leave me a sign and in the dream a white dove appeared. When I woke up I found a pigeon feather on my desk. Well imagine my surpise. But then I thought that a pigeon must have entered the room, the window was slightly open, and the noise produced by the movement of the wings must have influenced my dream.

My question somehow indirectly inquired the IC if there was more to that dream than a dialogue with myself. I hope I'm not too vague and sorry for my english, I'm not an native speaker.

Thaks a lot.

Hi Arwen
Dreams can be a wonderful palace to wander through and can give you great insights. However, the message is one that only you can truely interpret. Others can give you pointers, however only your heart can describe what they truely mean to you.
The dream message was what it mean to you at that time. The IC message was about what the dream was telling you......or maybe is still telling you. The sign that was left you was a white dove a symbol of PEACE. Strange that Hex 11 should come back into the frame, and should return in this way.

Your second question is a very good question - the IC has given you a good response. Remember if you want to know answers use your head, if you want to know truth use your heart. Be encouraged by what you are feeling to stretch for your truth (Hex 24).

"I tend to interpret it as an attempt of my unconscious to communicate with my conscious self."

I do too.

As to the specifics of personal attachment - whether it's real, in the sense of it literally being her, or is it what comes out of an all-inclusive collective - is arguably subject to your interpretation of it.

This is from an old blog. Maybe you can relate. Eric is my youngest son.

Eric and I were walking up the asphalt hill. I asked him "Do you see him?" "See who?" he asked. "That Indian sitting on that rock", pointing with my nose. He looked at me sideways with a crooked grin - being quite familiar with his dad's quirky imagination and his love of storytelling. I nodded my head at the rock, smiled and said "Good morning", just as I always do. Nothing more was said, until we reached the top of the hill. Pausing there to catch our breath and observe the terrain, I continued: "If there is no Indian there, what has been lost? But, if there is an Indian there, he has been acknowledged." Eric chuckled, and we headed back down the hill, passing the Indian again, on our right.

Thank you Mike for your clearing this up to me, it really helps. As for hexagram 24, yes indeed maybe I should have more confidence in what I feel.

"if you want to know answers use your head, if you want to know truth use your heart" this is an advice that came exactly when needed. wow, I already love this forum. thanks.

Hi meng,

Thanks a lot for your input and for the blog quote. It is really about the acknowledment of "the other world" whatever that means. There are so many things to be seen.

It's really a good surprise to see people willing to share and help. This doesn't cease to amaze me.
