hexagram 12 lines 4 and 6 becoming hexagram 8

Hi all

I went out for a drink with somebody a few days ago. It seemed to go quite well, although i was pretty shy and nervous.Had an email next day saying he enjoyed the evening but have not heard anything since. I asked the I Ching, "How will he respond if i send him an email"...i received hexagram 12 lines 4 and 6 becoming hexagram 8. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Hope it is not a silly question.

I've got a few thoughts Sparkler, but from what you've learned about the IC so far, what do you think 12 and these lines are telling you?

well i suppose i wanted a different perspective from my own interpretation...as my ideas may be biased...i don't know...well i would say that hexagram 12 is saying that currently things are not moving, however the lines i got seem quite positive, so there is a bit of a contradiction here...maybe hexagram 8 refers to the outcome if i follow the advice in lines 4 and 6...are the lines as important as the overall hexagram?

Yes, very important imo. The Hex can be seen as the general situation and the lines are the specifics. I guess you could say that your life situation is the Hex, like a snapshot of the reality at that moment and the lines are the specific details within that snapshot which can offer possibilities for changes. A bit like little portals or windows dependent on our choices. Well, that's how I see it anyway

Perhaps there isn't a contradiction really. Your first post suggests that this is a time where energies have been stagnating and they need to flow again. 4 and 6 suggest ways to lead you out of this stagnation, which seems to be ending and changing towards clear direction and focus - a grouping together, a union. That doesn't necessarily mean union with him but union in yourself or perhaps a greater possibility to get back into the driving seat of life - seeing your place in the scheme of things.

Lines 4 and 6 seem to suggest remaining true to yourself but also taking the initiative and having responsibility. Stagnation doesn't just end without action. Sometimes we must give it a helping hand. Line 6 does seem to point in that direction.

So, in my humble opinion - send the mail. Then you'll know one way or another if that pleasant time you had has a chance to be repeated.

Yes, go ahead and send the email, a change in your circumstances is coming but you must take an active role, you will then have success.
