I was wondering how people would interpret hex 16 unchanging as feelings.Would it be a similar feeling to the way listening to music would feel - a spontaneous emotion of joyOr is it a superficial or an empty overly enthusiastic feelingAny thoughts...

I think you are asking this because of your last thread about 51.1>16 aren't you ? You are asking because you received 2 quite different views of 16 as a relating hexagram - now you have 16uc ?

There is an entire thread on people's experience with 16uc

But first to your question it makes no sense to say it is either of those things it can be all of those things depending on the context of your question.

In 16, Enthusiasm one may make big images to inspire and envision the future. Plans, my ideas about what next week might be like, my thoughts about how this friendship might turn out - things that inspire and move like music.

Is making images in your mind in preparation for the future merely empty enthusiasm or is it true inspiration ? It's not either/or it covers all of that.

It wouldn't make any sense to say it only ever means empty enthusiasm or that it always meant the joy of being moved as in music. It is whatever it is in the context of the question.

I might sit here and wonder if a man I saw on the bus is secretly attracted to me and then I might run with that image and I might imagine us going away together and then getting married and ….er hang on I've just made a feature length film in my mind. Is that inspiration and making ready for the future or is it empty imaginings ?

Well it depends doesn't it on whether there is actually any attraction there and a lot of other factors. Now if he is attracted and single then my vision of the future was not an empty fantasy it was me building up possible futures and we have to do that or we wouldn't aim for anything in life. We need the vision to inspire us. If I don't fantasise about what I might do and so on then there's nothing inspiring me to act. Also fantasies allow us to know what we want and go for it, they aren't all pointless but they can become delusional.

So going back to the bus guy. If he has never even noticed me and is in fact gay and happily married then if I keep on replaying the feature length movie where we go away together after a while 16 is manifesting as delusional rather than inspirational.

If I really want to keep this movie alive I could start asking the I Ching a lot of questions about this guy because the I Ching is going to give me some kind of answer...and then by that time I am out of touch with reality and need 15 the pair to ground me.

There are no 'negative' or 'positive' hexagrams it depends on context

I will also link to the 16uc thread.

Meanwhile as this thread is not a shared reading it belongs in Exploring Divination. I will see if someone can move it unless you want it here - then they can move it back perhaps.

It can help a lot if you go back to what the words of the I Ching say even if it doesn't make a lot of sense to you it can give you are more independent idea of what the hexagram is to do with.

This reading in hindsight most likely meant fantasy. When someone fantasizes about you but it never materialises. It’s all in the mind. That would fit in with unchanging lines
