Whilst recently looking through some old readings I came across one made about a year ago concerning the removal and storage of my father's furniture from his house. I had asked the I Ching if I should accept that an ongoing dispute with the removal company regarding house-removal and storage costs would continue for some considerable time, and lead to financial loss. The answer I received was 19,5 - 60. The Wilhelm/Baynes translation of fifth yin is as follows:
Wise approach.
This is right for a great prince.
Good fortune.

On first impression this reading appears to endorse the approach proposed within my question i.e. that it would be "wise" to accept that the ongoing dispute would continue for some considerable time, but there are a number of factors which don't support this interpretation.

The term "wise approach" could well apply as an endorsement of the attitude encapsulated within my question but it could also apply as an exhortation to ADOPT a wise approach to the situation, a balanced approach free from any excess or bias. This would apply directly to my possibly erroneous assumption that the dispute would continue for "some considerable time" - possibly several months. The line-resultant, Hex 60, Chieh, Limitation, would apply perfectly to such an interpretation (could anyone advise me of the Chinese term for "line-resultant" I used to know it but now can't seem to find it anywhere). The approach contained within my question is unbalanced and lacking in wisdom.

The Parallel Nuclear Progression (24,6 - 27) is similarly urging me to adopt a renewed approach to the situation. It is urging me to Return to a more accurate assessment and warning me (Top yin - Missing the return. Misfortune. Misfortune from within and without. If armies are set marching in this way, One will in the end suffer a great defeat…) that the attitude expressed in my question reveals that I am in serious danger of being unable to turn back. Hex 27, I, is urging me to pay close attention to the content of my thoughts.

The issue was fully resolved some two to three weeks later when, at a meeting called by myself, the removal company finally recognised that they had been seeking to charge costs not included in their original quotation. The matter was concluded there and then without any prolonged waiting period or additional costs.

I'm still observing this one but it appears that the line-text for fifth-yin isn't giving praise to one's approach but is urging one to seek a wiser, more balanced assessment of the situation.

most of the times is how i read it too. W/B commentaries make a neat check list. Seems delegation is necessary in this situation and hex 60 supports that idea too, imo. Everyone involved needs to be in the right place.

Thanks Anemos, point well taken. Yes, in a group situation one here at fifth yin must delegate carefully, selectively and with moderation, allowing each chosen participant the freedom to proceed in a balanced manner without undue urging or escalation. In an individual situation the "chosen participants" are the accepted thoughts and ideas. These also must be carefully moderated and restrained (Hex 60) in order to maintain a balanced perspective - the root of wisdom.

There's also a protective aspect to 19, as well as an overseeing aspect. It seems you are the most fair, unselfish and wise to oversee these affairs. Perhaps a little more assertiveness could help in your administrative task.
