Hexagram 2.3 for Finding a Profession

For those who may remember this rambling story, I've been trying to determine how to get back to work since July. So many ideas, projects, potentials, have arisen, but nothing that has a practical way in, nothing obvious, nothing outright offered. Everything seems to be an idea I'd have to invest in [with no funds] and create from a standstill position. Last night I had a dream about returning to work in opera production and I woke up shattered because it wasn't true! Anyway, enough sniveling, I decided to discuss this with the YI once more. I had done a serious casting at Summer's end and Trojan read for me that I would find sustenance [if not work] in some unusual way, but that I'd somehow make a "living." So far that's happened by trying not to spend what's still in the bank and odd infusions of money I wasn't necessarily expecting or remembering would be coming along.

My question to the Yi today: How am I most likely to make a living?

And the intriguing answer: Hexagram 2.3 becoming Hexagrm 15.

Well, I'd love to work for a King -- do you know any? Significant points seem to be doing something for someone else and not taking the credit? Is 2.3 indicative of a particular field of endeavour? I'm trying to imagine as wide an angle on this as possible, if anyone has thoughts.

actual personal assistant comes to mind, Lise's 15 title 'team words' and 2 following like a mare and definitely something you've done in the past both from 2's judgement and the fan yao as background.

Harvest: in the Southwest finding friends (or money)

doing something that comes easily to you too, and maybe for a friend. lots of possibilities but I would say with the two hexes and lines its a combo of being dedicated and modest but again something thats easy for you, second nature or that you've done before.

WOW ChingChing, you are a 2.3 expert -- lots of clues there. It would be SO good if somebody would offer something. I've been round and round on this for a couple months and keep changing my mind what seems to be a logical answer. I so much wish someone would say, "Here's an idea, here's the perfect thing." It's not lazy believe me, I've spent days on this and had a number of false starts and then nothing moves. Partly the economy of course. So it's so hard to tell a worthy idea from a poor one.

hmmm, I wish I was an expert, but in honour of hex 15 I have to say it is not so... I often think of 15 as a levelling out, the high are brought low etc. and I mean its also reflective of how you have been living modestly. I think this indicates the inevitability of a change, and 2 seems to say to me it will be received, Its a hopeful reading I think. I know exactly how you feel, and my sister and her husband were in similar situations too and just this week they have had offers from people. Things will turn up. Just heed the advice of line 3

you asked how you were likely to make a living, not what work would make you feel fulfilled so the answer is all about modest (small) gains and performing some sort of service for the greater good. That could be anything really, the point is that you wouldn't be doing it for your own pleasure, you'd be doing it because it serves some larger purpose. Also the idea of following (working with what is already there rather than creating new things) is present in this answer. One can make a living doing anything really. If you want to work in the opera production, maybe you should look for ways that you can. Why can't the dream being a lead to follow? And even if you don't get to do exactly what you'd most want to do, if you are involved in it somehow than it still serves a purpose greater than your own personal gains.

Good luck. I know how hard it is trying to find employment in awkward economic times, but there is always work around, if you are willing to accept what's on offer and keep an open mind. :hugs:

Perhaps you should go back to your old projects and ideas and check the state of them now, see if circumstances connected to them have changed so you could bring them to completion and offer as your work projects? Speaking in general, sorry, just this came to mind when reading the lines, struck me perhaps you should return to some of your former efforts.

Every contribution to this thread has opened whole new worlds. Which may sounds silly BUT it's all a matter of where one places the emphasis, isn't it? Completion. Of course. There's another line of thought. This is a far more complex line than it first appears. It's one of those "every word a treasure house" lines. Back to the drawing board yet again. Thanks Dragona.

Hexagram 2 indicates a willingness to follow the signs and be led. This indicates that rather than creating your fate, you will be led to it.

The king is line 3 refers to following the highest principles within yourself. Even while following the signs, you adhere to "the king's business"...there is no indication within the reading about a job or success, rather than that the adherence to principles is most important and the scale of the process is larger than the scale of a job.

Wow, it ain't over till the Tiger sings! And this does fit as well. I've been involved in a couple charitable projects lately. Neither of them would ever be a job and because of them I haven't spent a lot of time looking for "real" work. And I have yet another idea to try out as well in the charitable vein. Seems a bit weird maybe when i'm not earning a living to do this, but there are so many needs here that are obvious and need to be looked after a bit.

The plot thickens. Seems to be a a far more complex readings than i'd thought.

Don't ask me what it means - they're just the words that suggested themselves. But I like 2 to 15 - it's got a good feel. If it were me, I wouldn't need to know anything more than that. It'd be time to get on with it and stop talking about it.

It is a line of service of course...but the King ain't goingto praise you for it...cos although you may be 'working' for him its not him you are actually serving you are serving something beyond and greater than him. I see the King as the worldly power and authority here...which pays you no recognition, might not even see what you are doing...but never mind the King you just do what you have to do.

"The plot thickens" is just a theatrical expression meaning more layers are added to the discussion. I really don't think there can be much complicated about what's available or what I can do here in a remote place of slim possibilities. I had only about one more card to play to be honest.

But just in the last half hour, something completely unexpected has turned up that may solve the problem. And, as the Yi has said, there was no further reason to "seek works" because this comes as the result of an application I'd put in several months ago that I thought had come to nothing. Today I was contacted and told i'm in the final stages of having a position. Well, that's a welcome surprise.

My "final interview" is in a couple weeks and I'll let you know what happens. I appreciate all of the input on this line since I was not seeing any indication of what it could mean. As much as I was motivated to get on with it -- there didn't seem to be a way or anything more to do. It has seemed like all doors were closed and I was on my own to create a job "somehow." Interestingly, the job possibility that's suddenly come up again involves working for the government -- the service of the King [Queen anyway].

Yeah, I did what you suggested and I said it as an affirmation. I've tried everything, done everything, I possibly could since July. Maybe this just tipped it over the edge! I've tried keeping a positive attitude NO MATTER WHAT -- but I have to say it was looking pretty desperate six months later and still no job. Thanks Gato. I was thinking of the same contrast, as you brilliantly point you Trojina.

Infact I got both of these lines, to the muddle of questions I have been throwing at the yi...all about the insight into the Nothing that is my life with the multitudinous forces that seems to be acting upon it...

How do you resolve that? Sometimes serving the Highest, just happens to be serving a King, and him in his kingly ways, may not acknowledge it...and may be acknowledging it might render the service, a servitude...a 'business' rather than service.

Serving the highest, even if in the form of a King, keeps the individual in alignment with their innermost Truth, rather than becoming a vassal of a king. May be that is a better reward than any a King could possibly bestow.

May be both these lines illustrate the true nature of Service...in its highest mettle.
