I think it suggests that one of you might have been imposing (or trying to impose) (or mebbe the imposition was from outside yourselves) unnecessary limits/restrictions that were not natural. Or perhaps that one was trying to define/constrict/tie-up in a bag the relationship you two may or may not have together... ?

I see 2,4 as possibly a scenario where things are pretty much literally 'tied up' and theres not much you can do and its best not to try to influence anything cos its not going to work. The outcome will be as it will be - now that doesn't exactly answer your question does it, but its the answer you got so ..? Is it the case that he sees this relationship as already 'sorted' so to speak, that theres no more to say ?

"does he want a relationship with me?"... the answer i received was hexagram 2 line 4 becoming 16.

Hex 2.4 I think this line applies to you, you must be reserved and tactful in this time of difficulty, do not push yourself on him and cause a confrontation, be discreet and keep out of the way until things die down.

Hex 16 he has the enthusiasm to want a relationship with you, it seems like the right thing for him to do, pointing to a successful outcome.

Hiya Sparkler:

My experience with 2.4>16 has been that it's the Yi Jing's version of que sera sera. It is what it is. It makes Karcher's definition of 16 as Provided For more apt than Wilhelm's Enthusiasm. Receiving it isn't all that helpful. Seems like a good time to pull out those great three questions that Jesed suggests:

Please give me a general diagnosis of my relationship with X (or overview as some prefer)?

What is X's position in this relationship?

What is my position in this relationship with X?

I think he sometimes suggests a fourth: What action should I take in this relationship? But I'm not sure. I may have made that up.

(The questions need an official title, don't you think, like The JQs or What Would Jesed Ask or Let's Jesed That ????)

Good luck!

it also says: "no blame, no praise", and "through caution one remains free of harm". The yin line in the fourth place is in a yin place, the yin power is on the increase, therefore the contraction is as powerful as in the case of a tied-up sack. This naturally brings about a certain isolation, but it frees one of obligations.Wilhelm explains. Nothing coming in and nothing is going out... I guess because it is the receptive one should just accept it and go with the flow here. Ones this is achieved in relation to the question asked it will turn into 16, where one yang line holds all other yin lines in check but not as a ruler but a minister. "But the five lines are good friends of the yang line; it unites them just as a hair clasp holds the hair together", explains Wilhelm. I quite like that outcome from a contracting yin to a gentle enthusiasm ones accepted...
