Hello:
I asked the I Ching a question in earnest concerning a legal matter (benefits being withheld); I asked , "How will this be resolved?" and received H22.5 > 37.

I have always found line 5 to be a bit confusing, especially with differing translations such as :

When invited to the palace be wary that the richness of the surroundings can amplify the condition of one's dress. Poor clothes. Forgiven.(Refined)
(Emotional I Ching)

and :

The fifth SIX, divided, shows its subject adorned by (the occupants of) the heights and gardens. He bears his roll of silk, small and slight. He may appear stingy; but there will be good fortune in the end.
(Legge)

and:
Grace in an empty garden.
The roll of silk is a leftover.
A leftover is inadequate.
Eventually good fortune.
(Eclectic energies)

What I can glean is that very little can be had, but it is OK nonetheless.
Any other insights would be appreciated.:bows:

Well you'll get something, there is something to be given in this line, it's not much but that doesn't matter. In the members area there is a great thread on 37.5 the fan Yao of this line.

Maybe who ever is suppose to be giving you genfits is tending to his own familyfirst, own company or whtevver the scenario.

I always get 22.5 when I'm in a situation where I feel like me effort or gifts skill are inadequate and this line is saying that doesn't matter in the long run, it's not as important as you think it is. 22 in general is ofetn that, there is a small harvest in shaving a direction. The ceremony, in your case a legal stand, is important in of itself , it's important to hold people up to the agreements they are legally bound to, but the money is secondary and not as important as it feels.

My own translation and commentary:

22.5, 6 5th, Zhi Gua 37: Jia Ren, Family Members
(Fan Yao 37.5: sovereign draws near to family, do not worry)

Dressed up amidst hills and gardens
One’s gift bundle of silk is but a shabby remnant
Embarrassing
But in the end, promising

22.5x Six fifth has promise:
There will be happiness

He lives a simple and frugal life, with good to do, if not not well-to-do. Upper class
life feels foreign. You can live in the ornaments. Rules are different above. He feels
too clean and misplaced. He hasn’t learned half of the gestures, but knows to take
gasses outdoors. He knows the gift he brings is no treasure. He feels like a clown
in these fine, borrowed clothes. Economy here means something entirely different.
Appreciation as well. Poverty and simplicity are not the same thing, although they
might share the same budget. He will not need to fake his humility. Life and style
are not utterly meaningless here and the pleasantries make for some pleasantness.
There is good and much work to be done here, which will find its way back down
to the valley. He brings all he can up the hill, wrapped in this shabby silk offering.

Thanks to you both for those answers. Yes, I am trying to adopt this view, of simplicity and not fretting about what is too little or not enough. I find the I Ching is a help in bringing about a certain feeling of resignation in the face of fate. Thanks so much again, very apt interpretations and most appreciated ! :)
