Found out this morning and I just did this reading. It was a long time co- worker who everyone liked. A good person and mother of three, totally unexpected. I can't even go into work tomorrow. Many of us were good friends with her.

Hexagram 27, Nourishment.

Perhaps she could only find her nourishment in the next life. I am very angry that she left three young children behind and no doubt many others are too. Everyone tells me you can't know what it's like.

Thank you

That's very sad. Sometimes, people with very severe depression commit suicide and it is like a disease, for them -- when they are depressed, it is a terrible sickness, which causes them to self-destruct.
This play is very informative in this regard-- it was dedicated to young people who killed themselves out of depression.

"Why did she do it?"

27 ~ She was empty on the inside.

When it feels like you are pushing a boulder uphill, you never really get rested, and sometimes ~ if you get depleted enough ~ it rolls back on you.

My hope is that all of you will now set a table with gracious heaps of love and community aplenty, because we can't make it through this life alone.

My condolences to the family, yourself, and everyone involved.

Hi

Yes very sad indeed, 27 is very interesting to be honest I am surprised the Yi responded with this hex. I suppose as stated that 27 could me mean a total lack of nourishment. It goes to show how important nourishment is, peace of mind is such a big thing in life.

Very sorry again to hear this news.

As steve says, it's desperately sad. Depression has a variety of expressions. But it's essentially a chemical imbalance in the brain - at least that appears to be one of the major reasons for bi-polar or manic depression. Think of the depth of utter hopelessness that would lead you to see that ending your life would be a beautiful release. It upsets me a great deal to hear/read of these cases because I think it's often hard for folks to understand how utterly bereft of hope this condition can induce.

In one sense, it is indeed a release for such tortured souls but it's important to understand that they aren't really in control of themselves. I feel for those left behind who may harbour resentment for such "selfish" actions.

I think radiofreewill perfectly summed up this reading. She was indeed running on empty poor love.

I had a friend who recently lost his wife "out of the blue", a lovely lady who suffered from intermittent depression for about ten years. She had two beautiful children and a loving husband. She threw herself off a motorway bridge. Think of the sheer desperation of release that causes people to forsake everything to end the torture. What she left behind of course, was utter, tragic destruction. This is not something they appear to be able to for see. And even if they do, the spontaneity and opportunism of the depression death wish is always illogical and irrational.

Rest in peace indeed.

How very, very sad.
27. Nourishment in this instance reminds me of how very important it is that we monitor what we take in not just with food but with information. The years when The Sopranos was the hit t.v. show about mobsters that made the main characters seem acceptable, even lovable, were the years when we were bombing the hell out of Iraq and no one in congress was complaining that the U.S. was acting like a mafia bully. I watched the first few episodes of an old series, The Wire last week and it glamorizes cops beating up blacks which we now see has become the statis quo. We think we are strong enough to say "Oh it's just a movie" but it's a hypnotic suggestion. We can't ignore the influence.

I used to get depressed more in my 20's and 30's as you say topal it is a chemical imbalance, i think the alcohol was contributing (probably mostly) to the chemical imbalance, so my body would go from high to lows, basically doing flip flops all the time, nowadays if i feel like i am slipping into that place I take measures, exercise works for me , even like a walk around the block, however the concern is that if something dramatic happens its a real slippery slide, makes me think we need to constantly work at nourishing ourselves on all levels and being aware of it always. Putting healthy things in our minds and bodies.
I never looked at hex 27 in such a strong context.

Thank you so much everyone for your heartfelt responses and sharing your stories. I know that wasn't easy :hugs: As far as I know this girl (maybe mid-thirties) was not bi polar but she was very quiet until she got to know you.

Hi

1) Naming hexagram 27 "Nourishment" could be deceptive.

2) Thunder inside the Mountain. Inner turmoil, exterior blockage. I like Bradford's image for hex 27: "The volcano awaits an abudance of pressure". Either she seemed to be calm in the outside but faced a lot of inner anxiety or she faced a lot of inner anxiety due to some kind of external blockage.

3) From a Wen Wang Gua perspective, in hex 27 both the symbol for happiness and the symbol for anxiety are hidden; the symbol for happiness is unable to get out of hide while the symbol for anxiety is able to get out of hide. The symbol for hapiness is fire and the symbol for anxiety is water. Water thriumphs over fire. The line representing her is Earth and there is an non-moving line producing effects, it is wood, and may represent some kind of economic burden or loss of property (alternatively, it may represent some kind of gossip or conflict with siblings or competitors). So, she was facing a inner strugle between hope and desperation; she was able to keep anxiety under control until some event (gossip, conflict, or lost of property) affected her and eventually desperation extinguished hope.

The volcano awaits the abundance of pressure. omg. Yes, this, and other posters picked up on it too. I could see it in her face many times but don't we all live like this sometimes. I didn't give personal details about her life but this does nail it, based on what I knew about her. She was a good soul in a troubled life and made poor choices, and continued to make poor choices. Why people continue on like this is beyond me.

Sorry for the bummer topic.
