Hex 28 is about a situation reaching a crisis point, you have to understand what the actual problem is so then you can find a solution to ease the pressure.

Thx again
I find it hard reading unchanging hex's
Is it best to just look at the Judgement and image, any ideas on the best way when there are no changing lines

I find unchanging hexes hard to get sometimes too. People vary a great deal on how they see them. I incline to the 'this is how it is' view - that is the unchanging hex shows how something is there not being much in the way you can do influence things.
I recall someone saying the Image was important with unchanging hexes and I have found this to be the case. For 28 the image says something like (in Wilhelm) that when one has to one stands alone, even if it means renouncing the world (everyone elses way). I take it as you must do what you must do regardless of what others think, for you are at an extreme here, feeling close to the edge. When one feels close to the edge one must do what ones survival instincts tell one.

Hmm an example ; suppose you're at the end of your tether in some job and you feel you must get away, desperately, and your friends say 'no stick it out wait till something better comes' but you know in your heart you just cant take anymore then i would take 28 unchanging as saying 'you are right, you must get out even if others tell you you are crazy'. Enough is enough could be a part of the message here. Don't push yourself or the issue any more, get out from under this load before it breaks you... that kind of thing.

Somebody I met on an I Ching course and who had been studying the I Ching in China told me that all answers from the I Ching are always just an answer/picture/hexagram of that particular moment and not how things are forever or will stay as everything in the Universe is moving. He also told me that it is impossible to try to put our time frame on the I Ching as the Chinese way of "time" is completely different than ours. I think this make sense. He said that this is why you can ask the same question the day after and receive a completely different answer - things has changed.

Amazing!

I'm so grateful to the archives here! For the past week or so, 28 has been popping up left and right... 28 unchanging, various hex's changing into 28...28, 28, 28....

One of my translations calls 28: Test of Faith. So, needless to say, as it keeps coming up, I think I get it...and the last few times the minute I saw it, I thought, OKAY...ENOUGH....when will this test stop (hmmm...guess that's another question I could ask!;))
Anyway, so in my frustration, I thought I'd look around for other interps to add to my limited understanding....when I come to this and I get the "AHA" Wow...I'm attempting a massive restructuring of my life...massive...and somehow now, due to this thread, I'm reading this hex as more of a confirmation and validation of what I'm doing rather than a "more tests of faith to come" message...
I am so grateful! Thank you and blessings to everyone here!!!

Static hexagram 28

Undoubtedly, when you get hex 28, something is too weighty, and sometimes what is too weighty is only that you are getting over-concerned with the issue under question.

In addition, Hex 28 often applies to business startups.

Steve, it is really difficult to answer your question about static hexagrams, because you didn't say what your questions were.

Sometimes the static hex is a command. Like, if you get static hexagram 11, Peace, it might mean: ""Be peaceful."

Sometimes you can see what the static hex might mean if you read what's written under all the moving lines and understand clearly that none of them applies to you.

The R.L. Wing workbook has a separate section to say what the static hexagram means. Many people have found owning that translation, which is really more like a commentary than a translation, useful for that reason alone.

I recently got static hexagram 28 with regard to a dental situation, so you have to realize that each hexagram applies to so many different situations in life that it's impossible to generalize. Many of the other posts above should also be helpful to you. Getting a static hexagram will, I think, bring even an experienced practitioner up short from time to time, but after a while you'll get a feel for them, especially the ones you get over and over.

Hexagram 28, without changing lines. I got this last night. According to the IChing Workbook by R.L. Wing, Hexagram 28 without changes "suggests that you may have to act alone and firmly during the onslaught of these weighted times. There are times when even too much of a good thing is just too much". So true, as usual!
It's a great book. I've had it forever.
