Hexagram 29.1 My advice

I've just experienced a hard time, but I sort of was prepared. A little month ago I asked for an advice on some problems I was going to face.
I haven't expectet that this wasn't what I Ching was reacting on...

A series of calamities at home, in job and among friends hit me and it was a harsh struggle I had to face and work through.

29.1 Willhelm/Baynes:

"Repetition of the Abysmal.
In the Abyss one falls into a pit.
Misfortune
"

So: Don't give up allthough it seems impossible. Fight through with awareness of an unknown danger. If necessesary move above, under or around the upcoming calamity but continue Your journey unattached.

PS: I think it's the first time I have given advice to a reading but this one with all that followed I succeeded in this way, so: that's the reason.

this could be good to add to the wiki wing given you have clear experience and advice for this particular line. I almost want a bit more embellishment though to fully understand, that being said I really like your advice for the first line of 29, as it ushers in a seeming decline or decent into 'calamities'.

Thank You chingching. I'm aware that personal advices never reach the oracle-text itself and I wrote it quite spontaniously. Hilary, in her book, ends her commentary on 29.1 with:
"...………….. Now would be a good time to stop digging." and this I find striking to the situation one finds oneself in, namely not to be stucked in the mess, but to stay unattached and move on...
I don't think the danger at hand is a human one but more like "the mood of mother Earth", naturally necessary and at the same time dangerous.
Embellishment ? My English is not advanced enough for that, I'm sorry.

Hi

I have always found this hexagram to be a little like a jigsaw puzzle, meaning you need to make your way out of any said situation, there is generally urgency.

Hi svenrus, I like your advice and for me the operative word is "unattached". When I'm going through a very low point in life I tend to get a sort of anxious feeling, like I need to be able to fix everything. Then I take a step back and focus more on just being the best person I can be ( in terms of how I treat myself and others) and give myself credit for that (whether it changes the situation or not).

Hello

so if I understand correctly hilary says it would be a good time to stop digging and let things go, while you suggest not to stop and keep going/looking?
So you’re giving an opposite interpretation?

Hi Olga Super Star,

Maybe I would had been more careful to post my personal experience had I knewn that it would contradict with Hilary's (or anyone elses) interpretation. It wasn't meant that way I can assure You.
I can imagine the answer given by the I like a diamond with many facets: it's the same reading, same answer like it's the same diamond but looked at from other perspectives it's like the Rainbow, shining with different colors or expressions….

I was just trying to see if I got the meaning of your facet right as I seem to have a different way of thinking plus English is not my language 😬

Facet in the meaning viewpoint (It's the same paper/answer but black on one side and white on the other meaning that the answer/color of the paper depends on which of the sides You are seeing.)
But still, it was my personal experience with hex. 29.1 on that particular occasion and my personal advice lead out of this.
(English isn't my native language either)

Hi Olga Super Star and svenrus,

Let me try to expand on my minimalism:

29.1

[from the WB]

Six at the beginning means:
Repetition of the Abysmal.
In the abyss one falls into a pit.
Misfortune.

"I am my Feelings" is
Double the Abysmal.
The billowy sea of Separateness.
Like life inside a Washer Machine.

60

[from Cleary's Taoist i-Ching]

"When superior people practice the Tao and establish virtue, they don’t act in any way that is not just; their every step is orderly and regulated, their every word is timely and reasonable. In substance they are always calm, like a lake without waves; in function they act like water, which conforms to its environment. Their calmness does not reach the point of losing mindfulness, and their activity does not reach the point of straying from essence. There is a consistency about their movement and stillness, adjusted appropriately according to events, not restricted to a single pattern. When the time comes to stop, they stop; encountering danger, they deal with it. When the time comes to go on, they go on; getting out of danger, they do not bring on danger. Going along with the time, they deal with everything unminding, and therefore can get beyond yin and yang, not being constrained by yin and yang."

To be the Awareness of my Feelings, on the other hand, is to be stably grounded in 'things as they are' ~ directly experiencing felt-sense in the moment ~ with a Mind naturally adaptable like water.

I hope this helps!
