3.6 like any line can run the whole spectrum of significance according to the significance of the question. I think it is often making a big preparation for something that aborts, that comes to nothing.


Sometimes it can therefore mean one's own efforts are too sporadic if one is asking about one's own efforts or it might be that the project just doesn't happen.


Remember to always interpret lines in the context of the hexagram, here 3, chaos of new beginnings, things so new they could easily fall apart and in line 6 they do.

So if it is about someone's feelings maybe they don't even get started, or you think it's going to start but it doesn't. But it's a big mistake to have relationships via the I Ching, better communicating with the person or just observing what they do. If he's not bothering to communicate you may as well take it he's not interested.

I've seen this correspond to having a self-defeatist attitude. The reference is to people who give up when experiencing Difficulty In The Beginning. The implication is that you should not give up. Failure comes by giving up or not following the counsel in the proper way. The complement of the 3rd hexagram is the 50th (The Cauldron). A vessel providing nourishment for spiritual growth. This alludes to the Oracle itself. When one faces Difficulty In The Beginning, guidance to help them navigate the difficult times comes from the I Ching. I hope this helps.

First of all, Hexagram 3. Difficulty at The Beginning follows hexagram 1 which advises action and hexagram 2 which advises responding so there we see the first main difficulty in life = knowing if we should take the initiative or should we respond to someone else's initiative? So thus we find ourselves...

3.1 Running in circles banging our head against a stone wall. When you have difficulties at the beginning settle down. Find help.

3.2 Beware there may be those who offer to help you but it feels more like they're not helping, they're just taking over. They always want to be the initiater but you don't want to always just be the responder.

3.3 But without any guidance at all you're completely lost.

3.4 You need someone who's not too far ahead of you, someone who's also looking for assistance so you help each other take turns initiating and responding and learning together.

3.5 This works out in small matters but what about situations where neither you nor the helper has ever experienced anything like this before and neither of you knows the right way to proceed?

actually looking at all the lines it seems to be talking about me. let's say that in situations where you ask about someone else you never know if they are talking about you or the other person. but I absolutely want to give up because I don't get any feedback from him despite the recent Iching giving me promising castings (sometimes beautiful and sometimes not so) I don't understand if the 42 in this case should be taken as positive or simply how this giving up will always increase by more

yes i write from a very old phone and english is not my mother language. I usually don't give much information because I ask iching when situations have ceased, or when I separate from a person or quarrel, when I have to do with those people I don't consult him. that's why I can't provide further information, because I don't have it
