I wanted to share this regarding hexagram 36:

I just drew 36.3 -> 24 and it gave me the shivers...it spoke so directly about my problem:

I am currently "out of my element" and surrounded by some VERY nasty, mean-spirited, insensitive, cruel people. I just had an encounter with one of them...where I exploded in a fit of righteous anger...and used the "f" word. I came home and asked the Yi,

"What should I do about my current situation here?"

Answer:
36.3 -> 24

(There's that 24 again!) However, when I read hexagram 36 (especially Wilhelm's commentary) I just about fell over my keyboard:

"One should not needlessly awaken overwhelming enmity by inconsiderate behavior. In
such times one ought not to fall in with the practices of others; neither should one drag them censoriously into the light. In social intercourse one should not try to be all-knowing. One should let many things pass, without
being duped."

How did the Yi know that I did what I did?

I mean..that took my breath away. However...I'm a little confused about the moving line. Wilhelm says,

"Darkening of the light during the hunt in the south. Their great leader is captured.
One must not expect perseverance too soon."

Dreamhawk.com's commentary says,

"Determination to achieve goals has led by chance to the removal of a major obstacle or opposition. This has been at great cost, so avoid persisting to the point of stupidity."

I thought that was kind of interesting.

Wilhelm's commentary reads:

"It seems as if chance were at work. While the strong, loyal man is striving eagerly and in good faith to create order, he meets the ringleader of the disorder, as if by accident, and seizes him. Thus victory is achieved. But in abolishing abuses one must not be too hasty. This would turn out badly because the abuses have been in existence so long."

If I'm understanding this correctly...something that had been blocking my way has been removed (as if by chance)...but there's still work to be done...so I should be patient because it takes time to get rid of the "abuses"?

Removing the obstacle. Hmmm. To me this suggests that if you don't regard these people as an obstacle, then they won't be. You can probably choose how they affect you to a greater extent than you think. Maybe this mental approach will help your yang energy to return, which is where 24 fits in.
