Hexagram 48

I've been trying to figure out the meaning of Hexagram 48 THE WELL a long time now. Is it incomplete from the original Chinese translation? It doesn't make at all sense. Does anyone know what it really symbolizes? Something is incomplete in every translation I come across. People are just trying to guess it's meaning. I know it's like a parable or somekind of Chinese saying which I guess only the ancients understood.

Can anyone help?

The Well can be a source of any kind: a source for supplying our human needs.

In a family I have seen the mother pr grandmother referred to as the Well.

Some have said it can represent the movement of chi or ki in the body -- the body's energy when it is flowing freely.

The Well also represents the needs we all have in common as human beings living with others in a community -- our sexual, social, and economic needs.

The Well is very fixed in one place, since it is dug into the ground. This represents how our basic needs do not change. For example, we have such a need for water that if we moved, or if a whole city moved, we would have to dig another well to keep ourselves supplied.

I think you're right that interpreting Hexagram 48 can sometimes be rather tricky.

ok everyone for me the symbolism for Hexagram 48 for the new millenium is the internet and mass media. Any place where large groups of people gather to network, to trade and barter or exchange the latest news, gossip, ideas and money. Maybe a social network like Facebook, dating sites, twitter etc..

A Well in ancient times was the cross roads of the world where everyone stopped at one to water an animal and collect water to continue on their journey. The area where the well was located tribes set up camp or a village was created to cultivate the land. When a stranger was in town word would get around and people would come down to the well to hear the latest news and gather information. A good example of the importance of a well is in the many biblical stories that happen around a well.

This is similar to the world wide web
