I keep getting Hexagram 50 Unchanging these days whenever I ask about my spiritual development. Does it mean that I must transform, or that I have the ability to do so? I know I should. Any suggestions? Thank you.

That spiritual development is an alchemical process.
Gotta get the right ingredients into the pot though.

Spiritual development is a form of evolution, which goes off in all sorts of directions. There's no one form of wisdom. So you'll need some kind of vision of who you want to be and adjust your recipe accordingly. Some need critical thinking skills in there, others want lots of fluff and sugar.

It depends on what one means by "Spiritual". I no longer can define it, or even know if it exists. I perceive it, as it's most often used, as a dumping station for everything we have no rational explanation for. It (if it is an it) is completely entangled with our Superego, our personal senses of right/wrong, good/evil - our own conscience.

I once thought I understood what spiritual development meant, as though it was as easy as that. It sure sounds pretty easy. If I want larger biceps, I can do curls with a barbell. If I want spiritual development, I exercise my spirit. Usually exercise involves resistance, forcing the body to go beyond its comfort zone, and then noting the rewarding results of the work. Preparing or serving food in a homeless shelter would be a good exercise for ones spirit. Making a good meal is too.
