I am a trader in the financial markets. I have decided to adopt a particular trading methodology to trade the markets. The name of my trading method is "Hourly EMA Crossover".

My question to the I-Ching is "Trading the Hourly EMA Crossover Method". The Hexagram given is 51 (The Lines is Six in the third place) and then changing to Hexagram 55.

Please help me interpret this reading. Thanks very much.

Wenhoei,

I know a little about the financial markets but I've never heard of "Hourly EMA Crossover".

51,3 makes me think that trading in this way will be successful for you as long as you remain calm when the market moves unexpectedly.

Even when it's kicking off all around you, try to keep a cool head and act from your calm centre.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes,

Mick

Wenhoei,

Why don't you just ask the I Ching for each trade what the stock will do for the next day (week, etc.) and if it will end the day (week, whatever) above where it is now at? That is the method I used and it worked great. Of course, you have to know quite a bit about how the I Ching answers. I wouldn't advise this for a novice. What 51 - 55 is saying is that you are asking too much - will it work every time? Abundance indicates many times of sorrow and many times for joy. Shock is the I Ching being shocked at your naive question. Don't rely on a method and ask if the I Ching can sanction it. Rely on the I Ching. But try it on paper for a month or so....it will teach you what will bring increase and what will bring decrease if you pay attention.

Good luck,
Pam

Pam...

If you don't mind sharing "the way" the YiJing answers concerning investments, I would love to hear it.

I just asked if they would help me invest, and they answered 19 to 43...thank you Yi! So...I'm ready to start.

I'm going to start, as you suggest, on paper.

Thank you!

Val, Candid & all:

Sorry - I don't check in here all that often, so I am not always too prompt with answers. One of the things you can do to start is track QQQ (Nasdaq index stock). Or if you have a particular stock, start by asking these questions:
(First write down the current date & price so you can keep track of how you are doing with interpretation)
What will XXX do this week?
Will it show a net gain for the week at Friday's close?
Should I invest now?
Will it reach $20 this month (say it's at 18)?
Now here is where the interpretation comes in. If you receive something like 35 - 64 for this last question, or 16 - 64, 42 - 64, 53 - 64, 1 - 64, or even sometimes 46 - 64, this can mean the stock will reach somewhere just above where you have guessed (before completion of the rise in price).
However, answers which might be negative - 59, dispersion; 40 - deliverance (a downward indicator usually); 2 - receptive; 3, 41 etc. as the first hex, you should start guessing other outcomes. If you receive 23-20 this is not necessarily a downward trend - it could mean splitting apart from the rest of the herd (tech stocks or whatever) or splitting apart technically (stock split), or splitting apart from where it has been wavering (say up & down between 16 & 22 for six months and suddenly shoots up to 28).

Ask more than one question and stick to just a few stocks. Ask things about whether it is possible to buy at 16 and sell at 20 this month, year, whatever. Abundance in any answer is a sign of lots of wavering ups & downs and perhaps hoping for too much. Use Wilhelm and read the lines carefully and let the judgment on the hexagram as a whole influence you. Then keep track of what the stock does and what you guessed it would do. There are thousands of answers of course, so I can't give you an exact course in how to do this, but you will learn. And let me know how you are doing at it.

Another thing - if something heavy is happening in your life, the I Ching will talk about that first, rather than the stocks. Make sure you are clear on that and then after throwing for your own life over the next day, week, whatever, ask your questions about the stocks. Otherwise you will get answers about YOU.

Some combinations you think indicate an upswing will turn out to be a surprise downward. One funny incident that taught me a lesson was asking about shorting a stock 4 years ago (Dell, I think.) I threw 16 - 35. So I shorted it like a fool, it rose 17 points in one day, I had eight heart attacks, then the next day it fell 20 points. I bought it back, put in a buy at the open and a sell order at 152. It opened at 146, hit 152 at 8:25 (CA time), I sold it, and over the next month it dropped to 116. My husband was so panicked over the extreme rollercoaster ride he didn't want to short again, even though we had already made thousands and would have made another 40,000 or so. So deluded enthusiasm was the upward swing before progress downward (progress because I was shorting). CAREFUL when you ask about shorting. It is VERY TRICKY to get the right answer from the I Ching. Ask about buying and then if it looks negative, ask about shorting.

Let me know, and I will give more hints later.

Pam...

Thank you so much for so generously sharing your experience and insight. I love the 'shorting' story and can understand why your husband didn't...*grin*

I've noticed that 'heavy life event' thing with the Yi myself. It won't answer any of my questions until I understand that I've overdrawn my bank account (or love account...*grin*) and need to make a deposit now, or any such urgent matter that inevitably comes up in the course of my life.

After posting my request to you, I read some investor news on the net and read that August is a bad month for investing because people are on vacation and aren't investing. The article went on to say August is the second worst month for NASDAQ, September being the worst. Do you have any thoughts or experience on this?

I'm going to start now on paper only and chart the stocks' movements and the Yi's responses...and refer back to your post frequently.

Thanks again!

Val,
Yeah, August usually drags. This is what I just threw - let's do an experiment. Ask similar questions yourself and record the answers. Let's see if they agree. I believe I have gotten these and similar answers earlier in the year about August, so we'll have to see how things develop.

What will the NASDAQ do in Aug? 17
Will it close the month w/a gain for the month? 1-44
Will it close above 1700 the last trading day of Aug? 40 (remember, 40 is usually downward)
Above 1750? 34 (not a chance, but it is good to ask in case you are guessing the wrong direction)

above 1650 ? 37-20 (the family usually means 'in the general vicinity' or 'withdrawing downward around that number')
above 1630? 59-20 (okay, remorse disappears, so maybe it hits this area and quickly bounces up again)

Will the NASDAQ stay above 1600 all month? 45-16
(yeah, I'd say so)
above 1625 all month? 10-17 (might dip below)
above 1650 all month? (just to make sure I am going in the right direction here) 44-54 NO WAY.

So that's my best guess for the Nasdaq. If you have a particular stock, you had better ask just for the stock you want to know about. Post your answer after you ask these questions - maybe we can find a good point to buy QQQ. I like that because it is the best 100 stocks on the NASDAQ so no matter how awful it gets, 100 stocks cannot remain in the tank forever. I would like to see if we can together find some good investments.

Manalo Blahniks??? Do you own a pair? I wish I could get some but am presently dotcom unemployed and we are living off the proceeds from our investments, in which, happily, the I Ching played a huge part in accumulating. But I have been shy of investing money we are living on...time to get off the fear wagon and back into the game.

It's gorgeous out - time for a walk.

Pam
