For Context:

I asked Yi a few questions on how to go about learning it. All casts seemed fairly negative, so I asked the outcome of simply intuiting my answers as I still want to use the I Ching, I got Hexagram 51.1>16

Oooo a shock, hee hee that's funny.

So I decided to start by asking for the best use of my time today: Hexagram 46 Unchanging (Pushing Upward)

I asked what pushing upward required me to do today: Hexagram 40.2.4>2 (Release to Earth)

According to the lines I need to release foxes and a toe?

Who or what is the foxes: 31.4>39 (Influence to Limping) Who or what is the toe: 64.2>35 (Not Yet Across to Advancing)

I think the answers are telling me that my mind is all over the place and to slow down, which is nothing new and I'm honestly confused by these two casts so I move on.

Back to the original Hexagram. After Pushing upward was the great people, 'Pushing upward, creating success from the source. Make use of seeing great people. Do not worry. Set forth to the south, good fortune.' Maybe I should talk to the great people today?

Unlike last time I do not ask 'who' or 'what', if I want to find the great people I need to know where they are so I ask:

What distance from me is the great people or person mentioned in Hexagram 46:

Hexagram 51 Unchanging

Shock spreads fear for a hundred miles.

100 miles? Ok. So using google I check what's in 100 mile radius of me, I'm wracking my brain, I literally can't think of any great person out there, I mean who do I know that- then bang on 100 mile radius is the spot where a relative lives. Just like 46 they are South of me, in the South, Southwest, South is in the name of the place where they live. Ok, um, so I decide this is just a coincidence, it could be a stranger I haven't met yet, a friend, an acquaintance I hadn't yet considered, absolutely anybody else but this person, so I tentatively ask Yi:

What relation to me is the great people or person mentioned in Hexagram 46: Hexagram 37.1>53

Ha ha wow, I don't know I Ching but that sounds an awful lot like 'family'.

So of course my brain shut down then there was some high pitched giggling.

Ok now I'm wondering if I am even using it right? I haven't learned a lot about the I Ching yet, can you interpret casts in this way, asking stuff like distance and identity. I mean it seems a huge leap to go from asking Yi about your general day only to end on how one rolls 100 miles out to someone they don't even talk to. I think I'm messing this up.

Just for the sake of it I asked, what would be the outcome of making contact with X today: Hexagram 41.4>38
What should I even speak with X about: Hexagram 9 Unchanging
To be fair it says set forth to the South so I asked what would be the outcome of visiting X today: Hexagram 20.5.6>2

There is no huge reason out of my posting this aside from inquiring if I'm even using Yi right and if so have other people had simple inquiries that have ended in what feels like really random readings?

Really the main reason I'm posting this is just to share my amusement at getting Hexagram 51 twice and experiencing it so shortly after the cast, right or not that was pretty funny. Touche I Ching, touche.

outcome of simply intuiting my answers as I still want to use the I Ching
51.1 > 16

If you simply use your intuition, then you'll tend to read casts as 'things are not that bad' (so you'd add positive spins). That will lead to delusion, i.e. in incorrect readings.

best use of my time today
46 Unchanging

Slow steady progress, progress with small things. Get over something slowly.

what pushing upward required me to do today
40.2.4 > 2
According to the lines I need to release foxes and a toe?

Yes. Get rid of sly people, keep people you trust. With resulting 2, the emphasis is on get rid of sly people.

Who or what is the foxes
31.4 > 39

Someone who is giving you mixed messages, while in fact the road with them is blocked.

Who or what is the toe
64.2 > 35

Being patient, and waiting for the right time.

What distance from me is the great people or person mentioned in Hexagram 46
51 Unchanging
100 miles?

Yes, more or less.

What relation to me is the great people or person mentioned in Hexagram 46
37.1 > 53
sounds an awful lot like 'family'

Either that, or someone who lives a 'family' type of life.

can you interpret casts in this way, asking stuff like distance and identity

Yes. You can actually ask anything, answers are most often very literal.

what would be the outcome of making contact with X today
41.4 > 4

There's a mistake in this cast, 41.4 results in 38, can you check this?

What should I even speak with X about
9 Unchanging

Uncomfortable issues, with power games involved.

what would be the outcome of visiting X today
20.5.6 > 2

They wouldn't be there?

Whoops that 41.4 > 4 is meant to be 41.4>38, I've corrected it now.

outcome of simply intuiting my answers as I still want to use the I Ching

I do prefer to interpret the casts the most optimistically, which I'm guessing will lead to a shock when it turns out wrong. Hopefully my interrogative method will balance that out?

Best use of my time today

With slow steady progress, get rid of someone who is giving you mixed messages the road with them is blocked. Be patient, and wait for the right time. More or less 100 miles is family or a family type person who you can turn to for advice.
Do I have this right? It sounds like advice for way more than a day.

can you interpret casts in this way, asking stuff like distance and identity

Yes. You can actually ask anything, answers are most often very literal.
Awesome!

What should I even speak with X about?
Uncomfortable issues, with power games involved.
Urgh, I must talk to them eventually, in the future, right now I lack the character needed to keep the above from happening, they are a family orientated person though and they are 'great' in their own way. Still I find it hard to believe it is them Yi is suggesting, I will have to ponder that one.

what would be the outcome of visiting X today?

They wouldn't be there?
No harm couldn't have gone either way.

Thanks again as always for taking the time to read through and respond to each and every one of my crazy day casts! Feeling like having a plan of action makes all the difference. If I ever figure out that mystery person though I will try to update.

As an aside I'm thinking of using weekly or daily casts while becoming more familiar with the I Ching, I'm going to post last nights one for today otherwise outside of that unless something dramatic happens I probably won't post anything.

Prognosis for the day

No happy clappy fun time for you, this is a time of spiritual development and getting a little done day by day. While it sucks just accept that any self-expression on your part is not going to go down well, right now trust that there is a good reason for this and anyway this period is not forever there will be a transformation down the road so don't ruin it by getting all bitter or resentful or escaping into frivolous pursuits and desires or getting stuck in your head overdefining things words and concepts - unless something is worth the risk let it go, you know you have a lot of freedom and your needs are met so just get on with the everyday and enjoy it, enjoy the little things in life and find contentment in it, it'll help you get through this period and when it's over it's over.

P.S You really want something to do? Ok, look at the relationships you currently suck at, now bit by bit disentangled yourself from them.

>Don't know if I got it still this is what it looks like, that gratitude answer was weird, will see how the day pans out.

It's a great idea to do daily casts, and keep a journal - that way you'll practise a lot and learn the language of the I Ching sooner. Keep in mind that in most cases, when your question is about a specific day, the answer also refers to that specific day. Try not to cast too many questions, because this will confuse you. The more concrete the question, the more we understand the answer.

I mostly agree with your intepretations, here's my two-pence on your readings:

Best use of my time tomorrow: Hexagram 5.3.5>19 (Waiting)
Don't wait stuck in mud - wait in good cheer, and get to work, and plan ahead.

What is the bog I may get stuck in in hex 5: Hexagram 27.1>23 (Nourishment)

You've got all you need, but want more.

With regards to the waiting in hex 5 what am I waiting for: Hexagram 49 unchanging (Radical Change)

For times to change, for the calendar to be right for change.

What is the radical change I am waiting for: Hexagram 40.2>16 (Release)

To stop being taken advantage of by sly people.

In the cast where I asked about the bog what is the nourishment referring to: Hexagram 61.6>60 (Inner Truth)

A man who's all words and no action.

How can I wait in the way described in hexagram 5 line 5 in my workplace: Hexagram 60.3>5 (Measure)

Whoever knows no boundaries, will have misfortune. Make sure this is not you.

What are the best and most fulfilling ways I can nourish myself while I wait: Hexagram 58.1>6 (Opening)

58.1 results in 47.

What steps should I take in practicing gratitude: Hexagram 10.2.4>42 (Treading)

Mind your own business, be careful with bullies, and look after your own profit.

I would like to practice a hobby today please advise: Hexagram 47.2.5>16 (Confined)

You're very oppressed and depend on others, oppressed by all sides, so yes try some escapism.

What impact would song writing have on the health of my spirit: Hexagram 16 unchanging (Enthusiasm)

16 is music, and illusion/delusion. So it would be good to create music. However, this is a temporary superficial effect on the spirit, music can soothe but it can't deeply heal.

Hey diamanda! This was really just me trying out a daily cast to see how it feels, still I always look forward to your precisely edited straight to the point interpretations :applause:

It's a great idea to do daily casts, and keep a journal - that way you'll practise a lot and learn the language of the I Ching sooner.
Yep! I have started keeping a journal. I'm still trying to figure out how to use IC in a constructive way, currently I've abandoned daily castings and am considering other ways to use the oracle, like precise daily questions over a more vague day cast. I totally agree about the language thing, it's happening already.

Keep in mind that in most cases, when your question is about a specific day, the answer also refers to that specific day. Try not to cast too many questions, because this will confuse you. The more concrete the question, the more we understand the answer.
Yes, this is happening and has happened to me. Am trying to find the best approach that works, my state of mind has a huge impact as well.

I mostly agree with your interpretations, here's my two-pence on your readings:
I actually asked Yi about the accuracy of my prognosis and got 50.3.4.6 > 7, according to my notes I read that as I've got some of it right but some of the potential for understanding is going to waste as I don't know enough yet and that the important part was to spiritually develop. One thing I've noticed about my readings is what I call 'the story' even when asking questions on completely different topics - even with different hexagrams I often get the exact same story over and over in my readings, this has helped me understand my readings faster, like oh, this is about that issue again, or this part of this issue is what this is about, not sure how usual that is that is though.

Best use of my time tomorrow: Hexagram 5.3.5>19 (Waiting)

Don't wait stuck in mud - wait in good cheer, and get to work, and plan ahead.
Yes, this is what I thought as well, I notice Yi is really insistent that I plan and prepare.

What is the bog I may get stuck in in hex 5: Hexagram 27.1>23 (Nourishment)
You've got all you need, but want more.
Yep x 100

With regards to the waiting in hex 5 what am I waiting for: Hexagram 49 unchanging (Radical Change)
For times to change, for the calendar to be right for change.
Don't I know it

What is the radical change I am waiting for: Hexagram 40.2>16 (Release)

To stop being taken advantage of by sly people.
40 and that old story are like my besties at this point

In the cast where I asked about the bog what is the nourishment referring to: Hexagram 61.6>60 (Inner Truth)

A man who's all words and no action.
Hmmm, is this (along with 27.1>23 Nourishment) like having all I need and wanting more from someone who can not deliver in the first place and so feeling disappointed about it?

How can I wait in the way described in hexagram 5 line 5 in my workplace: Hexagram 60.3>5 (Measure)

Whoever knows no boundaries, will have misfortune. Make sure this is not you.
It's so funny you say this, the day after this cast I asked IC something like the outcome of learning about having boundaries and I don't remember the answer just the overall unanimous impression of yes! Yes! For the love of sweet mercy, yes, yes go do that thing!

What are the best and most fulfilling ways I can nourish myself while I wait: Hexagram 58.1>6 (Opening)
Sorry I meant 58.1.6>6

Hmm, be content within yourself don't mindlessly go along with things that don't sit right with you?

What steps should I take in practicing gratitude: Hexagram 10.2.4>42 (Treading)

Mind your own business, be careful with bullies, and look after your own profit.
Yes, the story again, I do get 10's a bit, the mind your own business thing I am getting better at

I would like to practice a hobby today please advise: Hexagram 47.2.5>16 (Confined)
You're very oppressed and depend on others, oppressed by all sides, so yes try some escapism.
47 is one of my most reoccurring hexagrams though I haven't drawn it lately, I kind of gave up on hobbies I asked the IC about them a few times and interpreted the answers as not worth it and don't bother. After reading this just to see I asked advice for the best most beneficial hobby for me right now (for some criteria) 17.4>3 and just straight up asked what would be the best most beneficial hobby for me right now (for suggestions) 11 I will look at the answers tomorrow however flow sounds interesting.

What impact would song writing have on the health of my spirit: Hexagram 16 unchanging (Enthusiasm)
16 is music, and illusion/delusion. So it would be good to create music. However, this is a temporary superficial effect on the spirit, music can soothe but it can't deeply heal. :applause:
Oh that doesn't sound so bad, so long as my expectations are measured, just something for some relief though, am less concerned with it now though, out of curiosity I asked what actives can I take part in to lead me to deep healing and got 26.3>41, training towards some sort of goal jumps out, I will check it tomorrow.
