I want to first thank you guys for all of your help thus far. I really do feel like I'm connecting with an extended family to help out in my time of need. I'm very new to the I Ching (1 month in) and still learning how to interpret the hexagrams.

I'm doing some introspection about my life and career today, in an attempt to clear away what must be removed so that I may allow what has to enter. Although I feel that I've done some form of coaching throughout my entire life, I just recently decided to become certified this year and begin a life coaching business from home. I asked the I Ching the question, "what should I know about my life coaching business at this point?" And I received 56.2.4>18. I do feel like a wanderer at this time as I'm trying to find my footing in this business. Trying to find balance in doing what I love (helping others) and making a living. I have no idea however what hexagram 18 is referring to. Repairing what's spoiled? Any help on this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Interesting rinda. I was just reading some text on hexagram 18 that spoke on removing something evil and a great and smooth progression. My only thoughts here are if the I Ching is referencing the business or the people that will be affected by the business.

Along with Rinda's thought, the 56 idea of not lingering with those you help but moving quickly, like fire upon a mountain top. This isn't unlike what some attempt to do here, on this forum.

18 is a hexagram of deep psychological counseling, sometimes at least. It refers to the effects of our parents, literally and figuratively - spoiling either by being too rigid and demanding, or spoiling by being too soft and enabling. Three days before and after is not a long time for changes to take place, which again reflects the image of a wanderer, represented by trigrams fire upon a mountain top not lingering.

Since at least part of your introspection involves what must be cleared before moving forward with your counseling vision, perhaps the above ideas may help you in clearing the way along this mountain top. Certainly counselors and life coaches are not without their own life challenges, but it would help to first clear your own passage before beginning.

Gosh, I've had this 56 line combo many, many times.

H.56 has always been for me, (unsuprisingly) where I'm in transition and either physically or psycho-spiritually travelling from one place to another. It seems your business, as an extension of yourself, is also in the same process of transition.

Line 2: reiterates that you have what it takes to draw in those who can support you. They may even be appearing quite soon. ("they" maybe elements within your own psyche or actual folks to help your business. Either way, a useful pragmatic line).

Line 4: Is an accurate picture of where you find yourself now: acutely aware that you haven't "arrived" - you're still in transition, constantly worried as to whether you are doing enough and torn between seeming practicalities, the logic and rationale and finding your way through this transition period. And sure, security and consolidation can be lost so this is often what I call a "see-saw" line in that things can go pear-shaped if you lose control - usually in terms of reacting and jumping at apparent opportunities that may not be correct ones.

With the background Hexagram of 18 it confirms - as is usually the case with transitions of this kind - that repair and self-observation is needed for the light of awareness to ascend a notch and "phase lock" to this new period emerging. As has been suggested, it is a prerequisite that to be a life coach it's sometimes necessary to go through further "trials" and be truly forged in steel so that you can embody those qualities of a true coach. And there's always more refining to do right?

If you hang in there and maintain that creative tension, I think you and your business - even if it goes in another direction - can remain afloat and prosper.

I must laugh out loud at the responses as they are certainly forcing me to dig deeper and deeper into my psyche to uproot any and everything that I must not carry for the remainder of my journey. After I asked the above question I asked the I Ching what should I know about my day today and I received 21.1.2.5>6 and I immediately went into a panic, asking myself what now! Now Yi is telling me I'm going to have conflict and be imprisioned? Should I cancel my daughters dentist appointment and stay in the house in hiding to protect myself? What will happen to my daughter if I'm imprisioned? All sorts of things begin to go through my mind. What crime have I committed? What am I doing wrong, etc. As I am reading the replies to this post I'm beginning to think that the daily reading was about an inner healing and running into conflict within myself about this healing and what I must do to release. I shouldnt take the reading literally. Does this make sense to anyone else or have I just fallen off the deep end. Lol I'm loving the I Ching because it gets right up in your face, up close and personal, but sometimes it scares the heck out of me. Oh and did I mention that transiting Saturn is today making an exact conjunction to my moon. I'm totally emotional. ((Sips tea)) and laughs out loud. Because I now realize that a sense of humor is paramount when making very important transitions.

Sometimes I found it helpful to see where the two hexs meet each other. Both talk about journeys and , to borrow Whilhelm's word, both are about "delibiration". You have already be given good interpretations and since you talked about humor, I'l like to share just that.

You asked Yi about your business and the answer sounds as yi says "remind me what is your profession? :mischief:"
Not to make fun but for something like the following to put in your suitcases

Thus the superior man stirs up the people
And strengthens their spirit.

Now you've got me chuckling along with you and Maria. I couldn't agree more that a sense of humor, or levity, is serious! lol

I think Topal's post is also spot on - "that repair and self-observation is needed for the light of awareness to ascend a notch and "phase lock" to this new period emerging."

It's quite natural to, let's just say, overreact to some of the IC's images, such as 21 and 6. It helps to understand that each hexagram can cover a very expansive amount of specific implications, and it requires steadiness to proportion these images, not over nor underestimate them, but to give some time for them to become clearer. 21's primary idea of biting through an obstacle isn't always being thrown into a jail, though only caution can assure this. It can be as simple as biting through some things that aren't yet clear to you. Some are easy and soft, some are tough and bitter, and even a bit poisonous, but this is what it takes, in your case, to resolve conflicting ideas that you're experiencing. And sometimes I've found it helpful to use a little magical thinking, hence the connection to shamanism. LiSe points to the necessity for a shaman to possess a good set of teeth. Your association with "transiting Saturn is today making an exact conjunction to my moon", and your somewhat hyper-emotional state being an example. When you understand these type of things, they lose most of their power over you, or at least put the horse's reigns into your own hands.

Hello friend:

Hex 56 stands for "a guest in the trip", trip means traveling from one place to another, just like the change of your job.

According to I Ching's rule, when there are 2 changing lines, you should consider the codes of changing lines and the hex code of the changing hexagram. Hex 56.2 and 56.4 suggest that you should consider the following things:
1. Find a workplace for your business(mentioned in line 2 & 4);
2. Prepare enough money to start your business(mentioned in line 2 & 4);
3. Maybe you also need a assistant to help you(this is not so important, because it is only mentioned in line 2)

Besides, Hex 18 means misconduct, so you should keep alert to correct your mistakes in your life and business. Then you have opportunity to be successful.
