Hexagram Transitions

I'm not a big fan of precise pathways but sometimes in regard to the moving lines, I read the same or some of the same lines in the relating hexagram, if they fit the theme of the reading, which they sometimes clearly do.They are a potential useful extra.

More interesting for me are some of the other links. I am also a fan of Takashima, mainly because of the examples.

I also use ordinary playing cards to cast : black yin red yang picture moving. They have approximately the same odds as coins.I prefer yarrow but I also prefer cards over coins.
I dont worry about the precise card odds.I just work with the structure of the deck and and use all 52 cards, sometimes picking them one at a time ( shuffle cut) or all together (shuffle fan select). If you can read the cards a little bit that is also an extra. Sometimes just looking at the cards is enough.

I found a deck with nice flowers on the back which I like and so do the people. If they twist my arm I might on a rare occasion read and in that situation I will use cards, reading as above.I read for a guy not long ago and the cast was 20.3 - 53. I said the cast was very spiritual. You have to decide whether to advance or withdraw. The advice might be gradual progress in an unchanging direction.
He didnt have a question and he didnt say anything but I knew he was working in a spiritual ministry. Later his wife told me he was thinking about retiring, which he did later, but not entirely. He still helped out in an unofficial capacity. The gradual withdrawal seemed to fit the reading.
If the people dont know anything about the I Ching there is a problem about what translation to use.It has to be good, simple and concise.I picked Karchers Total I Ching. Liu Ming's new book 'Changing' might just fit the bill if the gua 8 example is an indication.
On another occasion I was waiting in a packed solicitors office and I opened a new deck of cards to pass the time. The five of spades fell out : a hollow 'victory' at best. It later became clear that hiring a legal rep. was totally inappropriate and I backed off.

I like the pathways model that Russel has created.Clear and simple and expertly done.It is an interesting exercise to apply casts to the model and look for resonances between the lines in the context of the casts.
