Hi, i need a little insight, please

Hello,

I am completely new to IChing. I started playing with it a little bit, then i stubmled upon your website, and found readings to be extremely accurate. I also love the amount of wisdom and good will comming from this site. I am in a place in my life where it is very difficult for me to get help choosing the right path, succeed without having to sacrifice my ideals. I finally asked iChing and got a reading which i am unable to find here which is why i decided to sign up and ask you. I got 36.4.5 changing to 49. I greatly appreciate your insight.

Have you been over to the "Exploring divination" area yet? The button is just to the left of the "Shared readings" button. Anyway, if you go to Exploring divination you'll see near the top is something about The Memorizing the I Ching Threads. These are a collection of discussions we had about each line of each hexagram. If you scroll down you'll eventually see hexagram 36. Click on that and then fast forward to about post #80. That's where we started talking about 36.4 and 36.5.

36.4 Seems to be about what to do when you are in situations where you realize you and your values will never be appreciated and advises the thing to do in these situations is to quietly leave.

36.5 Seems to be about situations where you aren't appreciated but for whatever reason you can't leave, here you must be doubly cautious to know who you are and not get taken in.

49. "On your own day you are believed." This sounds very reassuring to me. Seems to say that whether you stay or go eventually your true spirit is recognized.

My guess is that the question is something around the comment you made - is that right? It sounds like you have a lot going on around you and do not know what or who to trust.
Hex 36 - Can be about the "wounding" that we all feel when things become too much for us.Everything piles up and we feel over powered by all that is going on around us - we are not even able to think straight.

36.4 - This can be telling us to face what is going on around us. Things will certainly not get better if we avoid the issues, they will only grow.
36.5 - This is perhaps pointing towards trusting yourself. Take a cautious approach and you will find all the resources that you need to make things around you seem better for you.

Hex 49 - Tends to be about casting off what is obsolete and no longer appropriate for the times ahead.
In my nutshell the reading could be saying: Set out your stall and let go of the things you no longer need.

36.4.5 > 49

With hexagram 49 we see two elements whose natural forces oppose each other fundamentally: fire and water. These forces will always be opposed. And when they are close to each other, they change each other. There is also the mystical symbol of great change: the fire in the water.

Hexagram 36 signifies a situation in which intelligent people are not appreciated -- which is something you already know.

Maybe it is clear to you that another person has a darkened heart. Maybe she or he seems to always be angry, for example. Line 4 signifies someone who only sees the worst in other people. That is one interpretation of it.

Line 5 traditionally is taken to apply to someone who is not able to withdraw from a situation; who remains upright; who is forced to adapt; who eventually triumphs.

In Chinese history there is a famous Prince Chi or Prince Ji who was the model of integrity, even though he was the minister of a cruel ruler. Actually, the cruel ruler was his own uncle. Just because we are close to someone who is a tyrant does not mean we must become like them.

We are not all privileged to leave when we want to leave, Amilex.

What seems to be implied in hexagram 49 is your wish or need for a total change, a revolution, because life has become so painful. In fact the need for change can sometimes be felt strongly in the skin, and another name for this hexagram is Skinning, as when animals moult or snakes shed their skin. Off with the old!

The primary hexagram seems to indicate that you are stuck where you are, however, at least for now. The I Ching has reflected back to you your own situation -- or your view of your own situation. Its advice to you is to conduct yourself carefully at all times, and keep yourself together mentally and spiritually, because the people around you do not share your values.

Just because other people do not share our values, that doesn't mean we have to give up hope. Everything changes

Looks like you are in very middle of this unpleasant situation ( although in the end it will be very beneficial for you ) . but you must not give up, keep going

Hi,

36 usually shows up for me in a couple of contexts: 1) when I am wounded in some way and the time for change is not permitting. It can feel like the situation is holding me in the pain and I just have to wait it out. 2) when I can't show my true feelings/intentions because the time or the situation is not allowing this type of display. And, again I just have to wait for the time or the situation to be more favourable to my feelings/intentions. Kinda like, keep your light under a bushel (or hidden).

I think it may be saying that you are in a difficult and unpleasant situation (36.4) but not to sacrifice your ideals but perhaps don't act on or show them openly. Just because you don't show your ideals to others or in the moment does not mean you don't have them or want to actualize them (36.5). It just may mean the time is not right in this moment. HOWEVER, 49 may mean that change, big change is on the way. Or you may outgrow the situation you are in, and need to change in order to grow.

This is a hard place to be ... but keep shining inside, and soon there may be a change, hopefully for the better.

Thank You all, from the bottom of my heart, for all your responses. I still cannot belive, given little description i proveded, how accurate (and wonderfull) your advise is. It is true that i felt trapped, and constantly punished for my ideals. I felt as if the torment was so intense, that it nearly made me start to become like my opressor, who i also loved and i knew he needed me to be strong for him, and fight for him, as nobody else would. I think that in the end my inner light wormed up his hardened, and wounded by life heart, and my preservance, sacrifice and love was appreciated. Now a am facing a great change that followed that final battle. Lets hope for the best.
I just need to say for the record that i love this site, and iching, you possess so much wisdom, and depth largely absent from my world. Again, thank you for sharing your insights.
