How can I return to my spiritual path?

Hi everyone,

Recently I've felt sort of out of sorts with my spiritual path and have been wanting to reconnect with my purpose, as I feel as if I've gone astray.

I asked, "how can I return to my spiritual path?" and got 64.1. I'm really not sure how to interpret this, I'm going to be honest, and maybe I'm just being negative here, but I'm getting the impression that yi is telling me to back off for a while. No matter what I ask around this situation (feeling disconnected from my path and wanting to reconnect) I get lines that tell me to restrain myself or "do nothing and wait".

Any insight on this line would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

64, 1 doesn't imply back off, it implies lack of necessary experience, the question is how does one gain such experience without humiliation.

What you need to look at is it in combination with changing lines 2 and 3 which would take you to 56 travel, which is what is needed when seeking new experience.

The external situation is 64, 1 and your internal state is 38 , obstruction.

Trying to change the external situation is thus what leads to humiliation through the obstruction of lack of experience.

As I said your internal state should be 56, travel, with external state 64, 2, 3.

Moving up the hexagram from 1 to 2 and 3 we see that firstly, at line 2, because you are strong, you need to proceed slowly and correctly, and then, at line 3, cross the great stream in an open yin manner rather than an advancing yang manner.

This is the correct way to proceed from changing line 1 within the external situation of hexagram 64 to complete the lower trigram.

Combining lines 2 and 3 is the correct way to avoid the humiliation of lack of experience and change to an internal state of hexagram 56, travel, thus gaining the necessary experience that is indicated to be lacking by your original divination of hexagram 64, 1.

Where you go from there is a matter for the Yi,

Thank you.

Hi foreverendeavour

I wonder if we ever go astray on a spiritual path. There is an old Zen saying 'The obstacle is the path'.

Your reading 64:1<>38 suggests to me an element of this. You may have been swimming in a different direction (38) however this has only happened so you can see things from a different perspective. You have not yet completed the cycle and will be going forward buoyed by new and different eperiences (64). This is a time for recognising your limitations, perhaps what led you to go astray in your mind and how you feel about having gone astray now. (64.1) Meet these first (make the connection with them) rather than jumping in and carrying on where you left off - just taking the plunge may not be as straight forward as you would like or expect, Carefully move forward when you consider the time and the connections to be right.

...or it may be nothing like that at all for you.

Good Luck

Hi foreverendeavour,
it is quite a difficult question to ask "how can I return to my spiritual path" and "my purpose". Are you sure that there actually is such thing as "your" spiritual path and purpose? This is really so full of purpose. There might be no such thing as "your" path, at least not at the moment, and things which are asked of you might be smaller - as said in hexagram 38 - less spectacular and yet more important. The ways you go and choose sometimes become clearer when you look back. For the moment, it might be better not to plan such big undertakings as a "spiritual path". Think about what matters. Maybe - as suggested in 38 - there are some decisions which have to be made to differentiate things and sort things out.
All the best, Mandarine_23

What do you mean by "spiritual path"? You may find that as you mentally sort out and put into words your concept of spiritual path, what that means to you, you start to see your path, like you find your path stands out as brightly as a color as if you had challenged yourself to look around the room and find something red.

Hello!

I, too, think the readings says it's not the time for spiritual exploration. Although you feel alienated from the path, you can't force the journey. It doesn't work this way.

Good luck!

Forever endeavour I have no further insights to add, but I resonate with the things you say in your initial post here as it describes what I’m experiencing and the responses you’ve had from clarity members here makes sense to me... I hope they do for you as well and wish you and the others here all the best.

I see hexagram 64. Before Completion as describing the space between when one episode has been completed and the new adventure has not yet begun. The planning space between incarnations.

Like think of 63. After Completion as describing moving to a new apartment.

63.
Already across creating small success. (Already off to a good start getting all your stuff out of the old house.)
Constancy bears fruit. (Now you just have to keep working on it)
Beginnings good fortune - endings, chaos. (Moving in was great - but now to get set up - auugh!)

So then think 64. Before Completion as describing how it is after you've decided you want a more spirit driven life, you've "moved" out of the old life, but you're not yet set up, you haven't met the neighbors, you really don't know anything about what life in this new "world" is going to be.

64.
Not yet across. Creating success. (You're not totally set up yet. You must create the life you want for yourself.)
The small fox, almost across
Soaks its tail.
No direction bears fruit. (If you don't make conscious plans, if you just drift, you'll be sunk.)

The oracle for 64. states, "A noble one carefully differentiates between beings so each finds its place."
Doesn't that sound like advice for setting up a new apartment/life?! A place for everything and everything in its place! Setting up a place for your mundane existence but also a place for the spiritual.

Thus from looking at the sequence here I think you are being advised that as you look to "return to a spiritual path" that you approach this with the idea that you are setting up a new life for yourself. Think about what a
"spiritual path" looks like to you. Does it mean being a vegetarian? Morning meditation? Volunteer work? 64. Says don't drift, use your experience.

Line 64.1 Seems to caution you not to think you must give away all your possessions and plunge into the life of a monk over night.
I think the advice here is simply Begin. You needn't be in a rush.

38. Limping as the resulting hexagram encourages you that this need not be a lonely path. Join with other seekers and let things take their time. "Embodying the qualities of Mountain and Stream, the noble one will join the firmness of his inner resolve with the fluid commitment, renewing his strength of character by turning his whole self around."
