Hi diidii,
The Shared Readings forum is for sharing your readings and asking for help with interpreting them. For simply discussing the meanings of the hexagrams and lines you might get more responses by posting your question over on the Exploring Divination forum. Also, have you checked out WikiWing and the Community Archives? A wealth of information there!
Meanwhile, the dark lord in 55.4 often refers to someone who is bringing light, truth, to a situation but you may not recognize this at first. You may fear this person or you may be fearing the truth.

At the top of this page there is a line of headings, "Learn the I Ching = I Ching Readings = Community = Journal Software = Shop = Blog = About " Click on "Shop". That will take you to a page that allows you to sign up for WikiWing. It costs about $1 a month.

I think of 55.4 as meaning one is in a position that is not altogether suitable for you and that in order to cope you have to rely on common sense and give ground in the face of events. By following this path you are able to continue in your personal development in the midst of difficulties, and another path will suggest itself to you in time.

Often the dark lord is not a person at all but a circumstance or happening you may never know about that aids you. When you look back at something solved, some difficult circumstance eased but you don't know how it happened. Dark lord because you can't see how he works

also you can search the hexagram index and find what's been written about the line. That's free, wikiwing isn't

Hi, Diidii:

You can explore in the forum using the «Forun Search» functionality under the heading «Community» atop of every page.
First click on Comunity and then in the blue link Forum search:

About the ruler of 55.4, RULER is a translation of , zhu3, wich has more meanings like MASTER, CHIEF, LEADER, HOST, even something more abstract like GUIDANCE.

If one considers that it means a person, must be said that, in the Changes script, nouns have no gender and can be traslated singular or plurar. If you believe that the beter meaning is LORD, be aware that the context or the story that you imagine may allow LADY/s, LORD/s. (1)
All the best,

Charly

(1) Here I've posted an almost literal translation of the traditional chinese received text. In that thread you can scroll up and dawn for seeing a wide range of opinions.

... About 55.4 I used to translate so:

遇其夷主吉
yu4 qi2 yi2 zhu3 ji2
MEETING ONE'S WILD LEADER LUCKY
or meeting with one's wild hostess will be lucky!
...
H.55 is, I believe, among many other things, the story of an EXUBERANT LOVE IN THE DARKNESS, helped by the divine forces of the nature.
...
Of course, WILD HOSTESS, can be a border matrilocal princess marrying with a travelling low rank young man, like happens in folk stories surely with some hidden historical background. Or even something else that didn't fit the forms of traditional chinese arranged marriage.
...

I think it's more like 55.4 is about the ostrich taking his head OUT of the sand. I think it's about getting in touch with one's inner feelings, the suppressed emotions, The Hidden Lords, we were scared to recognize or weren't aware of.
Hi Rosada:

Absolutely true! But don´t forget the Ladies. In 55.1 其配主, qi2 pei4 zhu3, can be translated as ONE'S DESERVED HOSTESS or as ONE'S CONSORT'S RULER, which can have some uncomfortable associations. Can see Paul.G.Fendos' book, page 250:

Fendos_Consort.jpg
Available preview in Google Books

Now I see that maybe « MEETING ONE'S CONSORT'S GUIDANCE » also can fit well.

All the best,

Charly

Did you mean 55.4, the thread's about 55.4
Hi Trojina:

Te Consort (Fendos) or the Mate (Legge) appears in 55.1 while another sort of Lord or Lady appears in 55.4:

55.4: 遇 其 夷 主
yu4 qi2 yi2 zhu3
MEETING ONE'S BARBARIAN LORD

, yi2, HIDDEN in Rosada's quote means mainly EASTERN BARBARIAN PEOPLE, UNCIVILIZED, or TO WOUND, TO EXTERMINATE.

Often the chosen alternative depends on the imagined story that Rosada proposes. Something similar occurs with the possessive 其,qi2, his, her, its, theirs because we don't know gender or number of subject or object.

All the best,

Charly
