This weekend I replaced the rear rotors and brakes on my car. Everything went smoothly. It’s a 2007 with 160k miles. However, I also noticed the oil was rather low and had to refill it (having not checked it for a few months - I neglected that when I shouldn’t have because I’d never had any issue with the car burning oil).

That got me a little worried but I did really amazing oil in the car and there were no engine noises despite being two quarts low.

Anyway, that got me wondering so I decided to ask the Yi.

The result was 34.3.5. I thought the reading text was interesting as I was considering replacing the brake booster and also considering replacing the rotors on the front end as well (they’re not faulty). On the surface this reading seems to me to be saying, “hey, if it’s not broken don’t fix it.” Although that’s not exactly what I asked - I had asked how long the car would last me.

What are your thoughts?

34. Much Force

Line 3:
The ordinary person uses force,
the noble one does nothing.
Persistence is dangerous.
A ram butts against the fence,
entangling his horns.
Trying to force things. This results in getting stuck or some kind of damage. It's better to step back and not do anything just now.

Line 5:
Losing the goat in the process.
Without aversion.
While forcing the situation to try to save the object, one loses it. One will get used to the loss.

Hexagram is changing to:

58. Exchange
Exchange.
Progressing.
It is beneficial to persist.
An exchange. There is progress. It is good to persevere.

Reads to me like you are being advised to do reasonable upkeep and repairs but not to try to keep it going forever, eventually you maybe better off exchanging it, trading it in.

My little old car is still kicking. In september 2021 I had three problems and to be honest I thought that this might be it: First the radiator failed but was replaced cheaply (by a mechanic). Then alternator belt snapped off which only cost me like $7 to replace myself. And then the second section of exhaust pipe fell off which I got the part for and replaced myself. Probably like $150 or so for that. Then just this past month one of the caliper pins was rusted and frozen inside the caliper bracket, I was able to free it and resurface it myself. Needed only to replace the grease and rubber boot that goes over it and the pads on that side. About $50 in total.
