How serious is his illness?

My boyfriend went to a doctor to check a health problem he has been having and was told that he has to go to hospital for a cancer test. An appointment was fixed for next week. We feel very concerned and I asked loads of questions to the Yi. I need your help to interpret them (sorry about the multiple questions...)

. How serious is his illness?
Hex 56 - Wanderer

. Does he have cancer?
Hex 21 - 1st and 4th moving lines >>>>>>>> Hex 23

. Test result he will get from hospital
Hex 60 - Limitation

. The diagnosis
Hex 18 - 6th moving line >>>>>>> Hex 46

. How will he feel upon getting the test result?
Hex 60 - 1st, 4th, 5th, 6th moving lines >>>>>> Hex 64

. The outcome
Hex 42 - Decrease

. The outcome (I asked again!)
Hex 15 - Modesty

. Is his illness fatal?
Hex 32 - 1st moving line

Look forward to your views on that:bows:

Miriram,

Just a few thoughts about your multiple questions. Clearly you are both concerned and worried about his health status. I think it's risky business to try to make medical diagnoses from the Yi or any other oracle. Nonetheless, the thrust of the various hexagrams in response to your questions suggest that something untoward has been going on for some time. My own experience is that 23 in health questions often points to a need for surgery to cut away somethat that could be potentially harmful. Limitation, modesty, and decrease (60, 15, 42) create a similar image. 15 talks of taking away from where there is too much and adding to where there is too little. 18 has to do with correcting something amiss, clearing up the decay, etc.

Your greatest worry is, of course, ". Is his illness fatal? Hex 32 - 1st moving line "
32 has to do with something enduring. Clearly this is what your question is about: will your boyfriend "endure"?
32.1, I believe, is saying that it is premature to be asking that question. There is "nothing beneficial" in looking for a quick answer, from the Yi or elsewhere. In other words, get the medical evaluation and follow the expert advice. I think in 32.1 the Yi is admonishing you that it won't act in place of your physician.

Good luck next week. I hope everything turns out okay.

Thank you Tony for your response. You are right, there is a lot of anxiety about what lies ahead. And next week just seems a long way before getting any information about what the problem might be. The thing is I feel somewhat frustrated that I cannot get any insight into the situation now that I need it the most. All the questions that I have asked the Yi so far about so many different issues - job, career, relationships - just seem irrevelant at this point. Now I just wish I had straight answers for the main questions that are on and off my mind - how serious is this illness? will he "endure"?

How serious is his illness?
Hex 56 - Wanderer

I think that your first question and answer sums up the situation well. The illness is the subject of the question and hex 56 refers to it as a traveller, something that has no fixed place to live, a stranger like a "bug" that has entered the body but is constantly on the move, cancer on the otherhand has a residence, it is not an outsider.

Hugs Miriam, my partner just completed chemo. If the hospital or clinic has a social worker, make an appointment for both of you. There are resources available for both of you to talk things over with others who have been there. If he is diagnosed with cancer, find a support group where you can discuss what's going on and how you feel about it.

I would shift your focus from asking the Yi to be a doctor for your guy, to instead ask the Yi how you can be a supportive partner. For example-

What is the best way for me to keep up my partner's spirits as he faces this medical challenge?

How can I encourage my boyfriend to know I care about him, whatever happens with his health?

What can I do today to be a source of happiness, inspiration and moral support in my relationship?

Who is a good source of patience and support in my life so that I can be strong for my guy?

How will this medical situation change my relationship?

How do I have a healthy balance between my relationship and my own personal need for growth and for rest?

Dear ben_s

Thank you for your suggestion! I actually asked some of the questions and my answers are really inspirational as the Yi never fails to be;)

So, have a look at my reading.

. What can I do today to be a source of happiness, inspiration and moral support in my relationship?
Hex 48 - the Well

. How can I encourage my boyfriend to know I care about him, whatever happens with his health?
Hex 15 (Modesty) 3rd moving line >>>>>> Hex 2

.How will this medical situation change my relationship?
Hex 64 (Before completion) 3rd, 6th moving lines >>>> Hex 32

You're welcome, Mirian. Here's how I interpret your new readings.

48 The Well, unchanging
There is a constant supply of life-giving support, which is always available to those who are persevering.
Whatever spirituality or inner strength means to you, that inner light, the fire of live, God's love, etc. - whatever that means to you - will be the source of the strength you provide to your boyfriend. You do not have to come up with the strength yourself, any more than the well bucket has to make itself wet. The bucket just has to go deep enough to get where the water is already flowing.

15.3>2
Natural forces are at work for good over the long term. Persistence, balance, and harmony with natural laws are the keys to success. Continuing on for the long haul is important.
to
The ultimate of yin: space, balance, nurturing.

64.3,6>32
What seems to be a harsh end is actually a transition time, and the situation is getting better. Don't try to force the situation, but be aware that some things take time to turn around and start heading the right direction. Keep a level head.

Do these seem relevant to you?

Your interpretation means a lot to me and, actually, it fits completely into the situation. I think that I couldn't have had a better reading than that. Both hexagrams and lines are addressing the problem straightforward. We are going to hospital tomorrow for the test and I now feel much stronger and prepared to give my boyfriend the support that he might need. I am also more hopeful about the outcome than I was when I started this thread. Well, nobody knows what the future holds, but my readings have been a source of inspiration and guidance.

Thanks!:bows:
