Hi all, I'm a new member to this site and happy to be here. I'm also fairly new to the IChing and know I have lots to learn and would appreciate any insight you all may have into my question.

So just a quick background: I've had a desire to own a small business working for myself since I was very young but until recently didn't quite know what that was. I've always loved using my artistic, creative side, however, and have been making jewelry for the past few years as a hobby, and also working for other
successful jewelers. well, I've finally seemed to have found a design and process of my own that I love and would like to pursue.

I asked I Ching "what do I need to do to launch myself as a jeweler?"
I received hexagram 41 with changing lines 2, 3 & 5 turning to hexagram 37.

I think of 41 to generally mean getting rid of unnecessary things, to be frugal, and patient. A possible interpretation I see would be putting aside activities that take away from my goal and just concentrate on the jewelry making as well as being self-disciplined and allow it to develop naturally.

What confuses me a little is the mention of a "close bond" in certain interpretations of line 3 and the relating hexagram 37, the family. This is has been a pretty solitary endeavor for me so I'm not sure how to read that. Also, line 5 sounds very auspicious, " someone does indeed increase him. Ten pairs of tortoises cannot oppose it." What I find kind of comical about receiving that line is that my jewelry design involves and is inspired by a turtle's shell, hehe. Besides that I'm not really sure what to make of it.

Any insight into this reading would be happily received :bows:

Hex 41 could mean that something needs to be cleared up or taken care of before you can go into business for yourself. There may be some obstacle you haven't thought of.

The gist I get from your readings is schooling. Most species school together as a clan or family.

If we were to put increase and decrease on a scale, we would note: to decrease is to increase the other side; though it's not much fun staying up there. Decrease of the self is increase to the group, or what businesses see as a potential team player. If you help the team achieve its goal, and you are recognized for your contribution, that's increase to you, especially when it reflects in your paycheck. If you help and receive no credit, that is increase of a different kind.

Thank you for your feedback, ginnie and meng!
Ginnie, I do agree that there are plenty of things I haven't thought of, as I'm seeing new things come up everyday that I need to address. So much discovering going on with this!
And meng, I loved what you said about decreasing something in order to increase the other. Though I don't know exactly how or in which ways that applies yet, it definitely gives me food for thought :) Also, funny that you mentioned schooling because I have been looking into a few specific classes to brush up on some skills or learn some things I didn't get a chance to at university. Thanks again

Hi Andy,

That's so cool! Oh, erm, I mean auspicious. Seriously, that is quite a coincidence to be just a coincidence.

I'd work with that theme in some creative way. It can't fail. :)

Yes meng, I thought it was quite a "coincidence" too!
Now it's only my own personal fears of failure that I need to contend with! Lol
