After over a year of consulting medical specialists my health problems are not resolved, though very slowly improving. Recently I've taken a holistic route focusing on diet, supplements and a mind/body approach incorporating yoga, meditation, spending time in nature. While my frame of mind is improved I'm generally exhausted, hardly working, and socializing even w close friends feels draining.

I asked the Yi, what's the single most effective step I can take to improve my health and received 45.3. Line 3 talks about isolation. Is this advice to be out & about more, or instead to take time out to nourish myself until I feel stronger? Or is it simply a reflection of my latest disenchantment with Western medicine, and my striking out on my own?

When I asked last week how the course of action I'm taking will be beneficial, I received Hex 26 a couple of times.

Hi aiyana,

My take on this is, the Yi is telling you that the holistic route you are taking will not solve your health problems but it is good to go on with it while you do more research on your conditions. I think it sounds positive that you might be able to find an answer.

Cheers

Best step to take for health to improve

Hi vng78, I agree - from Hex 26 that while the holistic steps I'm taking are not going to make things worse, they are not the key to my getting better. Which is why I had asked what is the specific step I can take for health to improve.

Am confused by 45.3, a line noone much seems to like. Perhaps it's saying that cycles of well-being are changeable, 'one cannot expect perfection and constancy ... don't find what works, make it work'. [LiSe] This feels like blame the victim! Forcing things is counterintuitive when it comes to healing. A lot of time, energy and disappointed hope have gone to doctors who are happy to pass me an invoice after weeks or months of therapies of various sorts, while shrugging that they don't know why I feel the way I do. If the advice is simply to adapt then I'm disgruntled with a fatalistic Yi.

I don't see anything fatalism in the answers that the Yi gave you. If it helps, 45.3 is a yin line (which corresponds to line 6) and line 6 is also a yin line therefore no union between the two but because line 6 is yielding i.e. yin, it is alright to go on. So, it won't solve your problem but it's alright for you to do it should you choose to do so.

Hex 26 is about accumulating a resource or in your question, the course of action you are taking allows you to accumulate your inner/strength (the holistic approach?) or accumulate your knowledge about your conditions (striking out on your own) that will help in your quest to solve your health problems.

Interpretations aside, I guess if you have exhausted your options with the doctors then it is just logical for you to strike out on your own, perhaps getting some facts about your symptoms, researching alternative healing methods or finding out if there are other people out there who have the same conditions and what they are doing about it etc. But you need to have the inner/strength to sustain this activity. Bottom line is, there's not fatalism suggested at all so don't lose hope.

Cheers,
Vince
