I'm going to turn 31 on Friday :)

I'm not that happy to be honest, as the years pass by without my dreams coming true. That's sad- I can't, or don't know how to, use my energy and potential.

This last year in particular was a real purgatory with the coronavirus and other things. I lost many things that boosted my spirit; such as friends, groups, day to day life outside home. Even my family situation isn't as peaceful as it used to be. And I wasn't able to find new things to compensate the losses (tried but they didn't work) . Seems like all is worsening.

I asked the I Ching: how to make most of my 31th year of life? and got 30.4.5>37

In 30.4 something is lost all of a sudden; and in 30.5 one mourns for it, which brings relief. The relating hexagram is 37- the family- which scared me.

What do you think about the I Ching's advice on making most of my 31st year of life?

Interesting that you got hexagram 30 just as you are completing your 30th year and asking where do I go from here? I think 30.4.5 - 37 is telling you where you are right now.

I see the 30.4.5 as representing your vision for what you thought your life would be going up in flames. I see 30.5 as it being right that you should recognize, honor your feeling of disappointment. Losing a dream hurts! But maybe this can be used for your spiritual growth because it leads to compassion and the awareness that..

37. The whole world is one family suffering right now.
Maybe make the most of your 31st year by doing things that act on the awareness that we are all in the same boat, one family? Also do things that strengthen your home base?

Have you seen the movie Frida? It's about the life of the artist, Frida Kahlo who because of a tragic accident had to give up her dream of becoming a doctor and became a world famous artist instead. I just saw it last night and now I'm reading this posting here from you. Maybe you get some benefit from watching it?

As you are walking into your 31st year there are real opportunities to regain the sense of community and togetherness you have missed and have missed out on(37). You have now an opportunity to look upwards rather than in the downward direction in which you have cast your gaze (30). To make the most of this year you need to embrace what is your burning desire and change the way you are seeing things - let go of that which is not serving you now (30.4). Mourn that which you have lost then find new things to replace them. It may not be exactly the same but be creative and open (30.5) and you will find ways to exceed your current expectations.

......or it may mean nothing like this for you.

If any reading scares you you know you are off track.

There's ways to look at ones own life and it does differ according to age of course. I think 30 here asks you to look very clearly to see that life is over in the blink of an eye, earthly life that is. That blink of an eye is what arrives and then is gone in line 4 I feel. Line 5 shows that though this brings you sorrow it's a sorrow of clear vision of the truth of brevity of life.

It's a great answer if applied to the question of how to make the most of your 31st year. Life is over really quickly, you know that so capture the essence of each day to the full because you may not be here tomorrow. 30 has to do with sight, with the capturing of an image, the realisation of an insight. Hilary has written often lately of Karcher's thought that in truth we don't just get one hexagram as an answer we get it's pair also, the other side of the coin, here 29. In 29 one can't see where one is going, it's all quite murky and feels risky and emotional. But in 30 there's light, clarity of vision associated with rational thought and that clarity brings floods of tears in line 5 yet these tears don't mean something is wrong. So I think Yi is saying you have insight into your life pattern, you know how time flies away. All artists of all kinds live this out each day in the capturing of visions in paintings or writing or especially 30, photography.

One practical suggestion I feel the reading may convey is that each day you make a snapshot of that day whether it's a sketch, a diary entry or a photo. This can put you in the stream of that capturing of life that makes art happen. So one small way to get the most of your 31st year is to capture it. 30 is a bird caught in a net (see LiSe's site, she has much to say about 30). For sure the time you have each day of this year will never return, things won't ever be exactly the same again and for me that does give each day a kind of preciousness (but I am twice your age) so really revel in it whatever it is. Also the creating of or capturing of the day in a sketch or a diary entry or a poem actually changes the nature of your interaction with the day itself. You're also making a record of who you are and what you are experiencing. ETA this is a magical act in a sense, it changes things, it connects you differently to the world.

Something else I notice about this reading is that the yang pattern is 62 and the yin pattern 61. You come to the question with a perspective on yourself from the outside, looking at your life as other's might. 61 is far more subjective, the inner truth and experience looms large. If you often try to measure your life by external markers such as 'I'm 31, where's the relationship/baby/fabulous career/inner joy' try perhaps to move away from that perspective which can be quite oppressive in that it makes you feel quite small against the world, this backdrop of what 'they' have got and you haven't, towards experiencing fully being the amazing scrap of light and intelligence that 'you' are right now alive in this world.

What about the 37 ? Well I think the 30.4.5 is in a sense quite a scary consciousness to inhabit, life feels quite fleeting and also sad so I think perhaps the 37 is what holds you together, keeps you from flying off in all directions. In 37 one has a place and a role and often duties and all that home and family and refuge are for you. It could be your actual home, your actual family or finding a role at work or elsewhere which gives you some stability. Not sure. I think 37 and getting 30.4 suggests again you almost try to slow down by capturing days and their meaning in some kind of personal expression. What's on your walls at home for example ? You could make pictures of what you want to happen, you could remake your home space artistically which I suppose sounds little to do with the question but it feels like in doing such things you're giving your psyche a bit of space to realise itself, manifest things, express what it really wants which may not be what you've told it it wants.

31 is a great age to be IMO, lots of time left to reinvent dreams or fulfil old ones.

I got the change patterns wrong. They aren't 62/61 but 45 and 26 much more to do with gathering, amassing, learning. This isn't the answer just the energies that bought you to the question. 45 investment, where to put energies, actually that's what you did ask about. 26 storing up knowledge or energies for their best use.

Personally I didn't work out what I wanted to do until I was 38 and that's changed a number of times and now, in my 60th year, I've finally found the best way to use my individuality. Most people say 2020 has been an awful year, but for me it's been one of the best in terms of finding personal happiness.

Your 31st year? Look how your Shining star (Hex 30) fits into the Family (Hex 37) of life.

Well, I just turned 32 this afternoon :)

I don't know if I've made the most of my 31th year- a really tough one-, but this is very true:

Some dreams faded, yes, but I can't recall when exactly. I don't know if I've really mourned it, just can say things have changed. I view the world & many things with another eye.

I don't know where I stand, what happened, what will happen. Even if I'm pretty happy now, another external shock or "depression attack" is enough to ruin it all. The ground has been shaky since a long time. I just could find relief in little things amidst all the earthquakes.

Happy Birthday, my fellow Libra! Wishing you a beautiful year 🌺 You went through your Saturn Return with some of the toughest astrology of the surrounding century, not easy on Libra Sun (or rising) specifically either... you're really still at the beginning of your life even if it might not feel that way. Wishing you a beautiful year ahead!
