There's been a lot of speculation about whether Trump will come to Biden's inauguration or indeed whether he will even voluntarily leave The White House so I asked, "How will Trump act on January 20?"

36. Darkening of the Light.
Hiding because of injury. Hiding the truth from oneself.
36.2 "Somewhat injured in the ability to walk or get about. A strong conveyance will be needed to get away." - Hilary
36.3 "Persistence amounting to madness should be avoided" - Blofeld

19. Nearing.
"This is generally a call to approach the situation as a responsible adult." - Hilary.

I'm interpreting this to mean he doesn't attend the inauguration, keeps his light hidden, but he does move out of The White House.

Playing along - he finally realizes not attending would hurt his legacy and/or future prospects, so he finds it in himself to be there.

(Am oddly thinking making an appearance is hiding brightness in this case - displaying brightness would be petulantly refusing to attend, maybe the first/only president not to? Don't know that for a fact.)

A problem with this theory is he's already gone so far down the petulant road... but boycotting the inauguration seems a lot more public and visible than even tweeting...

I can see your reasoning. Yeah, if Trump thinks he won then everyone else must be crazy and it's not wise to make a show of being the only "sane" one in the group. So he hides his true feelings and comes to the inauguration.

But even if he attends the inauguration and moves out perhaps he will continue to fight?, I had just skimmed the notes in WikiWing when I wrote out my first interpretation. Now I'm looking at Hilary's full comments and I'm thinking 36.2 means he moves out, but 36.3 could mean he continues to fight:

36.2 Brightness hidden, wounded in the left thigh.
For rescue, use the power of a horse.
Good fortune.

Okay, so he feels he's had a serious injury and needs help to get back up - his loyal supporters? His team of lawyers? Or more likely this is simply referring to a moving van that helps move him out.

This next line though is really interesting. It seems to say that even though he moves out, and I suppose even if he attends the inauguration, he doesn't accept defeat:

36.3 Brightness hidden, hunting in the south
Gets their great leader.
Afflicted constancy is not possible.

Now Hilary notes that Blofeld says this means persistance amounting to madness SHOUD be avoided - but will Trump realize that? "Wounded and in darkness {Trump} decides to do more than just hide away, [he] sets out on an active, determined hunt for what oppresses the light. And [he] has success! [He] grabs the source of the problem and the key to its solution." Might this be referencing Trump's cries of vote tampering? Perhaps he thinks he's got proof?
She continues, "However, this is not the same as already having a completed solution. [He] has an insight of enduring value [that is, he thinks he's found some evidence], for this to be realized, for the light to return, will take time and constancy." So he doesn't admit defeat but continues to rant and rave and tweet.
Finally, "If [he] rushes to make the light fully manifest, [he] risks further injury. [as you mentioned, he doesn't want to hurt his brand] [He] needs to carry [his] understanding through with steadfast determination, [he] simply cannot do this if [he] is still motivated by the experience of injury and feverishly anxious to have everything safely resolved."
All in all, this line reads to me like Trump is going to raging about this for some time yet, but he can't keep whining about having been robbed, "afflicted" forever so I assume this means nothing comes of it.

I think he'll always believe he won and was robbed.

Can only guess about the lines. "Power of a horse" - finding the spirit to stop wallowing and move ahead? "Afflicted constancy" - he literally can't be constant to staying president at this point and he knows it. Line 3's zhi gua 24 - the way to return is to step back for now?

(Shouldn't be too rude I guess - heaven knows I fail to find my inner horse and stop wallowing...)

What do you see 19. Nearing meaning in this reading?

Maybe that in addition to finding his inner horse, he will find his inner grown-up over the next month, at least on this one matter?

Not sure, though. I don't have much of a feel for 19, haven't internalized for myself how 19 means the adult in the room. Maybe if the 19-20 pair starts with an assumption that something needs attention? 19 approaches and gives it attention, 20 is hands-off and watches everyone else work?

Sequence text from 18 - 'With work to do, greatness becomes possible, and so Nearing follows. Nearing means greatness.' Setting aside the ghosts of the election enough to perform this last duty, respect this event?

With the rest of the reading in mind, maybe only to avoid doing himself some extremely visible damage though. The difference between "the President took sulking to the point of dishonoring his successor's inauguration," and the non-event of showing up and then moving on. I'm not sure why that would feel different from everything else, but I think it would.

19. ...Arriving at the eighth month means pitfall
If the second hexagram is the context, is 19. describing a situation where there is a pitfall if something is pushed to complete too soon? Could this be Trump thinking he shouldn't accept defeat yet? Thus is the oracle saying, "In the context of Trump believing Biden should be accepted as the winner this soon..."?

and then the Image: "The noble one teaches and reflects untiringly. Accepts and protects the people without limit."
Could mean he has something else to teach us? Like how to get out of any situation no matter how impossible that may seem? I wonder if he'll figure out some way to turn this defeat into a victory? Use it as a chip to negotiate no jail time? I can imagine him cutting a deal behind the scenes to be pardoned "Drop all charges or I stir up my base, start a civil war and let the Soviet Union take over."

Wouldn't that be a masterclass lesson in Perseverance Furthers by someone who truly is the world's best deal maker? "Faced with prison? Here's what to do: Never give up, never give in. Get elected president and refuse to leave until you get pardoned." Whoo-hoo! Well played!

Or maybe it just means he wont ever stop talking and tweeting about how he was robbed...

I don't know... it's very puzzling why he's keeping on like this. It's one thing to be convinced in your own mind, another to actually expect you can change the outcome. I don't know if it's psychological or strategic.

19 as the relating hexagram might be subjective to him, or might reflect that a willingness to back down and hide his light will have to grow over the next month, come nearer to him or him nearer to it... don't know.

Well if we don’t get anything else from the Trump era maybe we’ll learn what 19. Nearing means...

Now I'm seeing 19. as meaning "Don't expect immediate results". What I mean is, if 18. Work on What Has Been Spoiled is interpreted to be about correcting wrongs, then the next step after the healing is not seeing the results but learning that the healing has taken place. Like if you are sick and the doctor gives you a shot and says, "There, now you wont be sick anymore," you don't see yourself as healthy yet (that comes in 20. View?) and you know that if you went outside running around right now you'd get sicker, but you accept the "teaching" and act accordingly - no longer worried, looking forward to being well.

So how might that fit with Trump? Maybe as further emphasis that he will not accept defeat?

I see what you mean about illness... applying it to Trump and the inauguration might fit with 36.3 zhi 24 as we've discussed.

But, I mean, not accepting it in his own head is vastly different from actually expecting to still be president on Jan. 21. I watched a press conference where he said "of course I will" when asked if he would leave the White House. He yelled at the reporter for asking - "you know that," I think he said.

He must have some reason for keeping this up at this point...

Change patterns are 46 and 25
:||::: |::|||
46 is about optimistic, step by step progress - the judgement says "Do not worry" - and 25 (yin pattern which can act as advice) is about being disentangled. Those are perfect opposites. 46's Zagua (pair text) says "Pushing Upward means not coming back" - absolute commitment. So if he's coming to this with a 46 mindset, it'll require the maximum possible change to detach from it, and that hasn't happened yet, apparently. Maybe in 46-world a month seems like plenty of time? "Nearing" won't happen until the 11th hour? (That might not be a coherent use of change patterns - I don't have a feel for them.)

Thinking about this again - 25 has an element of luck, a name for it is "The Unexpected," also "Innocence." If the change patterns give some insight into the person, which I think Hilary says in her course, pushing ahead in hopes of some luck might make some sense.

Hilary also says this in WikiWing, that 19 is "[a]lso the name of ancient siege machine, according to Lynn - a way this hexagram can occasionally feel to the ones 'approached'."

Combined that might say he'll hide his brightness come Jan. 20 as by that time there will be no other option. Biden literally being sworn in will be a siege machine he can't repel. But in the meantime he'll keep trying.

19 for me is always optimistic and hopeful, good things coming, so I reckon Mr Trump will act wounded (36) but with the expectation of good coming his way... which is basically how he always acts. If he doesn’t attend the inauguration he’ll probably have a rally...! Otherwise, there’s always twitter. Either way he’ll make a big noise about fraud and probably announce his 2024 run with Ivanka as his running mate. 19 is my favourite hexagram, I’m always happy when it comes up!

Yes, the lines of 19. Nearing are all pretty positive - even the dreaded line 3. merely warns people to wake up and pay attention and then all is well. Since focusing on it here I'm see it as Trump saying, "We're so close, almost there, just a little bit more, don't give up, close, so close..."

Realizing that my exact question was, "How will Trump act on January 20?" I am now thinking 19 means "Don't give up too soon" and indicates he will not have conceded the election by then.

I think you're right. I listened to that entire pathetic phone call he made to Georgia, and take back everything I said in this thread. 🤪

I also asked Yi, "What is his problem??" and got 47uc.

"Faced with prison" could be the 47uc, maybe.

Good grief. Given his age maybe he thought if he got elected and re-elected, he'd die in office, unprosecuted.

Here's a great video on the laws broken

I remember Ari Moshe's 33 cast from a couple months back. I agree I almost wonder if this whole thing is a gambit to avoid prosecution. He seems to be goading Iran into a war as a way to perhaps stay in power (though I don't see how it would help). Hopefully that doesn't happen.

47 uc is about being cut off from communication - that certainly would be an image for prison! It also talks about laws (mandates) and desire's needing to flow together as one. Thus could be saying, "Trump's problem is that the election results and what he wants don't coincide."

Pretty horrifying what's going on now... wonder if the cast anticipates more like this happening

I asked a while back what his Fundamental flaw was. I bet the community can guess the line that came up.
(Hint, his wife has the same flaw)
(Hint, it was 4.3)

I wonder if this riot coming before the inauguration and approximately 8 weeks after the election could be considered the 8th month "pitfall"?

Hilary's zhi commentary in WikiWing for 4.3 to 18: "4 zhi Hexagram 18, Not Knowing’s Corruption. Corrupt, probably, because it thinks it already knows, or has created a cast image of the truth that can be known, but isn’t real."

Could be, Rosada. The 8 months doesn't have to be literal. What's the "arrival," though? What is it that's nearing, but is arriving too soon?

If you look at your journal entries for every 19 that you've had, then look 8 months later...
you will not find misfortune as an entry.
Once you do that you'll realize it isn't saying there will be inevitable misfortune in 8 months,

I wonder if it says:
He will Take Charge of his Hiding.
(Exile to a non-extradition country?)

How will Trump act on January 20, Inauguration Day?

How about it's The Inauguration is what's 19. Nearing and the IC says that before we even get to January 20 Trump goes totally 36. Insane, or at least as Moss says, into hiding? He did that today after pledging he would walk down Pennsylvania Ave. with the Proud Boys. Instead he ducked back into the White House.

Interesting the Image for 19. says "A noble one teaches and reflects untiringly, accepts and protects the people without limit." Trump could have made this a teaching moment for how democracy works but noo.. Trump is not doing any teaching, reflecting, accepting or protecting: not accepting the election results and limiting his protection to only his base. As this didn't happen perhaps that's why we have the Pitfall.
Perhaps this shows us that in order to have the benefits described in the Oracle one has to act in accordance with the description of the noble one in the Image.

I see where Twitter has suspended Trump's account for posting lies. That would fit with 47, and the cut off communication!

Now I read where 14,000 companies have signed a petition asking congress to invoke the 25th amendment and declare Trump mentally incapable of fulfilling his duties as president - that is, declare him 36. insane!

That makes sense - thank you.

There's another thread going in Reading Circle about this.

Once you do that you'll realize it isn't saying there will be inevitable misfortune in 8 months,
Not inevitable, no. But something to be careful about, a warning?

Now I read where 14,000 companies have signed a petition asking congress to invoke the 25th amendment and declare Trump mentally incapable of fulfilling his duties as president - that is, declare him 36. insane!
What confuses me is that in 36 Prince Ji wasn't insane, he was only pretending to be for his own well-being. Obviously Trump is motivated by self-interest. How far he pushed it - even late yesterday - certainly seems crazy. But does 36 mean he really isn't?

Recently in Reading Circle LiSe made the point that 19 can mean getting absolutely as close as you possibly can to something without touching it. Could the reading mean that? Pushing a crazy act to the absolute brink?

I think it's obvious he went way past the brink. Maybe that's line 3? Your Blofeld quote, "Persistence amounting to madness should be avoided" - he didn't avoid it.

Maybe pushing a crazy act to the brink and beyond becomes actual madness?

Apparently now he's finally committed to an orderly transition.

Huffing ones own fumes? Believing ones own lies? Yes delusional.
Cuckoo Coup anyone?

People may have thought I was exaggerating when I said he wanted to build a pre-magna carta future,
But before the red hats stormed the Capitol yesterday,
Guliiani incited the crowd with, "Let's have trial by combat".

Ji only shows up in line 5 of 36 though. 36 in general is about Shang. We didn't get line 5 here. I'm not sure that line 3 points to a particular person.

Line 6 is sometimes interpreted to mean the fall of Shang, "Traditionally read as the downfall of tyranny."- from Hilary. I actually received 36.6 when asking for an image of Trump in 2021. I also received 36.3 as well in regards to some other question about him.

I think (my biases aside) the Yi is equating Shang with Trump. But I'm not sure if it's indicating he may return in some form later or will persist in his influence in the US.
