…...and if I can do it anyone can. On completion if I had been a dolphin I would have done this

...but I have a question about the print function. It looks like you can only print one entry at a time is that right ? Not a problem just wondering ? hilary

...oh and well done Justin and Hilary :bows:

of course I'm assuming dolphins do that jump and flip when they are pleased with themselves about something

Thank you. I've watched the whole video carefully, and I'm pretty sure those dolphins are pleased with themselves. Maybe they've created journal software where you can print multiple entries in one go, but I'm afraid we have only managed it for one entry at a time.

Well, I had a problem and it doesn't seems so easy procedure as described in first post. I just received email with info about new 2.1 version, and tried to find upgrade script (before we had upgrade script, to save readings database from overwriting).

But, I couldn't find one. So I downloaded trial from this link https://www.onlineclarity.co.uk/journal-software/ i.e. direct link to what I have downloaded: https://www.onlineclarity.co.uk/Journal Setup.exe

And, after I installed it in same directory, but I got same old 2.0 version. Which is a bit strange, it is freshly downloaded.

After that I started to look in directory where I have Resonance Journal installed and I noticed Installation Manager sub directory. And Installation Manager.exe file. So, I started it. It found out about new (2.1) version, did its magic with one error (couldn't copy it, as some window was over it and I couldn't select text to copy and paste it here), but it seems it is not critical.

Anyway, after that I have version 2.1. But process isn't intuitive. I actually started writing here to report that file I downloaded isn't v2.1, but v2.0 (at least it is what I got).

My suggestions would be:

First of all, explain how to upgrade when it is not simple process (at least not in my case with instructions I had, i.e. that there's new 2.1 version).

Also, if there's now program that does upgrade, please include it in Help group within program, so we can easily start it within Journal software and let it does its magic.

And having such program is much easier than upgrade procedures before, so it is step forward. So, thanks to author, Justin Farrell.

But, I would also add some page with revision history, so we know what is new in each Journal version.

Oh yes, if it is still important, please also stress how it is important that we backup our database before upgrade procedure (it is great that we have program that does this for us).

EDIT: Not to forget, when I start Installation Manager.exe after update, I receive this message:

3 error/s detected.
Cannot find update service server
Cannot find url for install script
Cannot find url for update scrip document:

I guess it is because there's no new version, but it would be nicer to say something along these lines if that's the reason.

Also, now I realized, it is possible that I do this procedure completely wrong, that right procedure would be to first start Journal Setup.exe and drop files somewhere and then start Install Manager.exe. Well, I'm not sure, but it looks potentially confusing...

Maybe to make additional instructions' page for installation and upgrade procedures? Just in case. I myself am experienced, but I also remember that Journal had some complex and unusual upgrade procedures in the past, so it may be good idea to have additional information if it is still needed.

Now I managed to upgrade, but it wasn't simple and easy, certainly not for someone not tech savvy. And I am tech savvy, even if reading this my post may tell otherwise.

Hi Alan,

I'm sorry to hear you had problems. I can't quite make out from your description what happened - maybe you missed the link to the page of update instructions in the email sent to owners? Anyway... I'm glad you solved it. In future, you won't need special update instructions - the program will manage updates; you'll only need to click a link.

If you are getting those error messages, it may be because you have changed the default installation directory of the Installation Manager. However, this forum isn't the place to work these things out. If you have any problems, please send in a helpdesk ticket so we can look into this in detail.

I didn't received that mail, I received only monthly email where I found out about new version.

So, I guess that's the reason why I needed to find out how to do upgrade. But, if in future upgrade would work this way, I'm fine with it.

And yes, my installation is not in default directory.

I'm not sure why you're seeing those error messages; I've asked Justin. As you would expect, it would normally give a polite message to say you already have the latest version!

You must still be in your trial period, not on the owners' list yet. Sorry for leaving you in the lurch with no update instructions!

Hi Alan

Thanks for all the information and suggestions.

You mentioned having a "revision history". The good news is that this does actually exist (you just need to know where to find it). It is located in a separate text file within the "Resonance Journal" folder - the file is called "version-history.txt". There is information about updates going back a number of years.

Sorry to hear you had problems updating, but glad things seem ok now. Can I just ask what happens if you go into the Installation_Manager sub-directory and run "Installation_Manager.exe"? Are you still getting those errors? (These errors occur when the Installation Manager can't connect to the update files on the Clarity server). If you are, just submit a helpdesk ticket - and if you could send me a screenshot of the directory structure where your "Resonance Journal" folder is located (preferable showing its parent and subdirectories), that would be really helpful.

Thanks again, Alan, for all your feedback.

Before I received email about new versions.

Licence was given to me for free by Justin for my help with beta versions and program still declares itself registered.

And I opened ticket, I guess we will continue communicate there...

Oh! Sorry. I've made a mistake here that meant I didn't get your email address onto a new list for notifications. My fault. I'll add the email address you have registered here to the list. (If there's a different email address I should be using, please pm me.)

(This means you will get a 'thank you for your purchase' kind of email sent automatically. Ignore it!)
