I'd appreciate your input

Like the title says, I'd appreciate your input. I did some tosses on a situation I'm in, and I'd like to know how you think the hexagrams and lines I drew apply to the situation.

The situation: my wife and I moved into a new apartment less than four months ago. It's a nice apartment, and the area seemed nice as well. The price is very good, and we're planning to stay in this place (Singapore) for only another year or year and a half before leaving.

After we moved in, we started to have a problem with a very noisy neighbor in the neighborhood - lots of amplified music for long stretches of time(Singapore's in the tropics - lots of open windows and shutters so it's very difficult to get away from neighbor noise). I tried talking to him, I tried phoning the police, but nothing has worked. I really hate the music he plays, and I'm really sensitive to music. Okay. In addition to the noise problem, there have been various instances of vandalism as well. A couple of weeks ago, we got broken into and some jewelry was stolen, and the police haven't been very helpful. So we upped the physical security measures. I think it was a casual theft, but I'm starting to have my doubts about this new place, and so's my wife. Even before the burglary, I'd done some tosses about the noise problem, and that's what I'd like to ask you about, to check your reading against the one I gave them at the time.

First question: 'What do I need to know about us moving to a different apartment in Singapore?'

I drew 15.1.

Second question: 'What do I need to know about staying here and accepting the noise situation?'

I drew 6.4.

Third question: 'What do I need to know about staying here and fighting the noisy guy?'

I drew 56.1.

Okay, I have no problem understanding the response to the third question, but I'd really like your thoughts on the first two, especially that 6.4 in relation to the question I put.

if you want a comfortable and nurturing home environment that meets your standards you may have to make the effort to find what you are looking for and make the move. the first set of hexagrams seem to support you finding what you are after.

the second response seems to indicate that you cannot win this fight so you should stop trying to control it. also, by staying centered and calm you will be in a better frame of mind to notice a fateful opportunity that is coming your way that will change things for the better if you are aware of it.

perhaps in making the decision to go, it will settle your inner frustrations with regard to your present living conditions and this may be ultimately what allows a new place, better suited to you, to come to your attention.

Wow, it's surprising to hear about stuff like that in Singapore - it has quite the reputation for being straight-laced, what with caning and laws against spitting on the sidewalk. Neat country in other ways though from what I hear.

Anyhow some thoughts -

15.1 - just go about it in a careful and unassuming way and you'll have no trouble finding a new place.

6.4 - I'd say Dharma has this nailed. It's definitely advising against going head-on with the noisemaker. Dealing with this through reining in your frustrations and anger is key.

( What's really fun in 6 is when you get lne 5 AND other lines.. )

about the first question, what do you need to know, 15.1, if i got, i might consider that the yi is counselling me to use utmost in decorum, & discretion? in communicating with landlords, contacts about the apt?

my experience with 6.4 is that it is not comfortable to aquiesce, but necessary. the line promises good luck coming.

About 6.4: it isn't the fact that I should pull my horns in here that I don't understand (I've followed that indication since I drew the line), but it's the meaning of the rest of the line as it applies to continuing to live in this place that I'm unclear about. First and third lines offer no problem; it's the second and fourth lines that I'm not reading clearly. After mulling it, I decided that 'firmness fortunate' meant 'it's good to continue to stay here'.

Dobro, I was going to say something similar to what Jeff said above. I've been in Singapore several times and seems to me like a place where you can get fined just by sneezing in the wrong place... They even sell T-shirts with the slogan: "Born Free, Fined to Death". The Customs form the you must fill up prior to arriving to Singapore reads: The penalty for drug trafficking is DEATH.

Personally, I love the place. Must be the cleanest place on Earth. In the airport you can wear white pants and slide from one end to the other on your butt and still be white...

I'm surprised the police is not on your side here.

Oh, Singapore's super-policed and squeaky clean, for sure.* If they catch you, they nail you. Somebody spray paints a car, they get caned. Somebody sells drugs, they get executed. But it's also a society where if people think the law isn't looking, they get away with what they can. Maybe your impressions of Singapore are confusing the people with the authority. The authority's strict. The people pay attention to authority when authority's in the vicinity.

Sure, Singapore's clean. But that isn't cuz Singaporeans are clean. It's cuz they hire an army of cleaners to pick up the mess.

* This isn't bullshit or ironical, either. If you compare 9/11, the Bali bombing, and Singapore: Singapore's the only place where the cops intercepted the terrorists *before* they blew stuff up and killed lots of people. That's impressive.


But what about 6.4?

I don't think 6.4 tells you to stay, only IF you stay, then act like the line says.
"Determination auspicious": hold on to this course of action.

Yeah, LiSe, that's what I was looking for - the meaning in the context of the question. You read 'determination' to mean holding to the course of action described in the line. Makes sense.
