Hello dear Clarity seekers,

I asked: What to do to improve my image with my peers and manager? 44.1,4 > 9.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

44.1.4 > 9

Show more respect for tradition. Be more receptive of the benefits offered to you. You are a strong woman who has worked her way up into management, Yes? Line 1 suggests pointless resentment, and line 4, that you are not happy in your position (Hatcher: Oppressed inside a gilded chariot). Actually, I think you are good enough as you are and do not need improvement. I have been wondering where you were because you wanted a discussion of Plum Blossom -- so I understood -- and with little assistance I have been developing a thread on this topic. The time is ripe for it. From my perspective, Plum Blossom material on the Internet has reached a critical mass, and things that were once difficult are now easy.

So you had 44.1.4>9. No mention of bronze chariots in that cast at all , the bronze chariots are in 47.4.

So 44.1 is about a lean pig who rampages about . It's a restless demanding energy that wants feeding but is better kept tethered...it can't get those results it wants now. 44.4, no fish in the basket suggests there is nothing for you within the way of thinking that gave rise to the question. In hex 9 one tends to the small things.

My overall impression is you just need to sit back here, there's no advantage in striving for this better image you seek. There would be nothing there for you. Maybe you just need to concentrate on the small matters at hand (hex 9) and not think too much about the image, it's a distraction (hex 44). It may be you have less important work to do now, well seemingly less important. Or perhaps the work is full of detail, work that brings no acclaim. Afterall hex 9 is 'small tending', the hexagram of filing files, mending buckets and washing the dishes and all that...and if you are a manager there still hex 9 tasks, employee appraisals, signing documents....all the small farmer kind of work.

You cannot manage others image of you. You cannot control it. Saying that it's something you cannot control reminds me of hex 44. You cannot mould or manage this, you simply have to get on with the work. Also it might seem from 44.4 that if you wish for more recognition it won't be found in this arena.

Yang change pattern is 51...perhaps the question came about through some sort of upheaval, reorganisation ? The way out and through the question, the yin change pattern is 57. That suggests you just blend in seamlessly....become the work you are doing, which also reflects the idea in hexagram 9.

So overall I think this is a message to simply do what you have to do without the distraction of imagining it is possible or even desirable to manage others perceptions of you. Of course it might also say you can improve their perceptions just by getting on with it. You may think you aren't shining out much but often the quiet one who just grafts away does get positively appraised without even knowing it.

Of course this may not fit with the actual situation, you may not be wishing to shine exactly ....but overall I do see this as a picture of holding back wishes to get rewards and simply doing the next task in front of you. Don't get distracted by thinking about what others think of you here.

Thanks for the correction. However, my wandering mind did better than I. If there is a brake of bronze in line one, then the rest of the chariot is in the hexagram too.

Six at the beginning means:
It must be checked with a brake of bronze.
Perseverance brings good fortune.
If one lets it take its course, one experiences misfortune.
Even a lean pig has it in him to rage around.

According to Da Liu, in the Old Man With a Sad Face story (p.50-1), Master Shao saw line 4. "No fish in the tank" as no flesh, just bones: "No fish suggests that only the bones remain." So the old man was to die from a fish bone. Of course, this isn't a warning to Cris not to eat fish. Myself, fish (Alaskan cod and nondescript trout) have been my main meat for the last two weeks, and I have encountered a few bones in the trout. And although I have coughed up a little blood recently, from a bronchial infection, probably -- an insignificant matter since I am on warfarin and bleed at the slightest touch -- I do not expect to be terminated by a fish bone, although I think I gave my infection to the cat, who most amazingly begin coughing on the examination table when I took her to the vet this morning, and she was given an injection (more metal) of antibiotics and steroids and was got back into her pet taxi (box) without scratching anyone (more metal), which is amazing and a credit to the gentleness of the vet. See how my mind wanders uncontrollably and I apply the castings of others to myself? Anyway, since fish and money are somewhat similar (filuus (فلوس ) 'fish scales' is Arabic for money), and Cris has a problem with keeping track of money -- how could one get to be a manager with such a liability? -- perhaps this 'Beware of fish' has some relevance.

Cris could improve her image by being more prompt in responding to threads she starts.

Might I humbly suggest getting back to people, acknowledging their responses would be a great way to improve your image ? :mischief: That can be a pretty hexagram 9 activity ....it's small tending and it's important especially at work.

You posted the thread a week ago and I have the feeling it's just been forgotten.

If you also delay answering work emails and so on that doesn't give a good impression.

Thanks to all who provided their insight on my casting.
After 10 months, I believe the reading meant to stay open and communicative without being too expressive and focus on the day-to-day tasks - which I did.

Hi Cris,

Is that your cute cat in your avatar :D ?

Please forgive me - I'm almost certainly making something of nothing - but does he/she do that often, pressing his head against the wall?

I just learned very recently that that can be a sign of something wrong:

http://www.petmd.com/cat/conditions/neurological/c_ct_headpressing

Again - I do realize it's one picture, which, for all I know, is years old. But it's not anything any of my cats have ever done, and I just recently heard about this symptom, so...just being overly cautious. You may tell me to shut up :).

Don't your cats press their heads against you as a sign of affection?

Yes. It's not the same thing, though. This "head pressing" (as I understand it) is more like pressing the top of the head against an object and keeping it there, and doing it for no apparent reason. When my cats are being affectionate or want my attention, it's a quicker butting action, and/or rubbing. They'll also rub their cheeks against other objects, table legs or whatnot.

I've never personally seen a cat do what it looks like the cat in Cris's avatar is doing. I do think there's some term for the behavior of "read about disease; think you have disease," which is almost certainly what I'm doing  - just being cautious.

Hi Lisa,

no, it's not my cat and I don't even remember where I got the picture from... I chose it as it perfectly portrays my struggle to interpret Yi :D Thanks so much anyway for your concern!

Ha ha! I agree with you there. Yi gives me headaches, too, although it's been pretty kind and helpful lately, I must say :D.

Sorry to be an alarmist.

Oh, okay. I thought maybe you were trying to track down the cat.

I would like to find the original, but apparently this picture has been circulating around the Internet for years.

Yes, unfortunately. You posting the link to the blog reminded me about Tineye.com, but it listed results dating back to 2011.

I hope kitty just had a regular headache, or something :(.
