I recently asked about reconnecting with someone I care about in a 'new' way - not going back to the ways of old but reuniting with them in a new enterprise or path. I was given Hexagram 26 (accumulating) and read it as such:

It is a prelude to any major undertaking - look for old sources of wisdom and apply them to the new situation

Be yourself, focus on a central idea and go for it. But contain any discord - so tread carefully.

It's not a good idea to go after the old way (which directly addresses my "new" path part of the question). Keep cooperating with the process of change and all will be well.

Be open to what is coming, and disentangle yourself from the past (again, addressing my "new" path question).

You have felt a loss, but you can accumulate new strength as long as you don't dominate. Step outside the situation (keep some distance?) and re-look at things.

Let yourself be led.

I tend to write down my readings in a pad just so that I can make sense of them afterwards, rather than reading them again and again on a website. I'd be interested in other people's takes on my interpretation!

When I think of my experience with hexagram 26, it has more to do with inner power and "gathering" that power. I think of this power as accumulating, as in a battery. I would possibly interpret your hexagram 26 as the relationship could be a source of renewing energy, in whatever capacity (you would know best).

I think the key advice of hex. 26 is to look at this situation and see how it is or is not a repeat of what Wilhelm calls "Many deeds of the past." (26. IMAGE: the superior man acquaints himself with many sayings of antiquity and many deeds of the past, in order to strengthen his character thereby.)

So while you emphasize you are wanting to relate to this person in a new way, perhaps you are being cautioned to consider what went on before - either between the two of you or just in similar situations in your own life?
The same issues are likely to come up and by recognizing that and being prepare to handle things differently this time you are more likely to be able create a different outcome.
