Is it a lie?

Hello friends. I've asked two questions of Yi in connection with a possible lie I was given by text message.

I asked for a general diagnosis on the message I received from X

then I asked for an insight into whether X was lying about the event concerned

The answers were 34 unchanging and 52 unchanging. I wish I had more confidence in my interpretation of readings. Am I correct believing I was given a lie? Looking at 34 the subject matter deals with injury and harm, wounding. My gut reaction is that was the aim of the text message. But looking at 52 I'm not sure whether I'm being deceived and antagonised or not. Any ideas would be welcome from you.

Hi Zelda

a) general diagnosis of the message... 34 unchanging. I some cases 34 as a diagnosis of a situation implies some stubborness in the subject (consultant)related to the object (issue), like a stubborn goat related to a fence.

b) As usual, when the question is a yes/no question, I find more useful the mathematical aproach. In this method, all the double-trigram hexagrams are "total conflict". In questions of yes/no, a total conflict means "No". But, there are excepction. I would need to know the date of consultation to find out if one of the exceptions apply.

c) From traditional teachings, I would suggest another aproach: "How do the Sages qualify mi idea that .... is a lie?"

Best wishes

I wonder if your 52 might mean that if you are stable, true to yourself, that it won't matter whether or not there was a lie, it won't affect the situation at hand. ??

Thanks for your replies.

Jesed, I asked the questions early on 19th July if that helps. I've also followed up with your suggestion of asking how the Sages qualify my idea that the message was a lie. I received 61 with change line 3, relating 9. I think change line 3 strongly suggests a conflict between the message sender and me. That is accurate. But does it mean what I've been told is a lie?

Rinda, what you wrote has made me look differently at the message. I can remain true to myself despite the message being something that caused me upset. It is linked to an unpleasant past situation. Whether it is a full blown lie or just something to cause me upset by the sender, I will try to rise above it.

Best wishes

The first idea that comes to my mind is that the mountain trigam is perhaps the most "factual" of the trigrams. Mountain, rock, stone, what is more factual than that? Carved in stone ...
And hexagram 52, mountain doubled - I think this could hardly be the image of a lie.

On the other hand, you got 52 unchanging and then there is always the possibility that the answer is only an image of the question (52 fits well here if the question was "is this fact?") and that the Yi gives the question back to you.
In that case 52 would mean something like "you can know if it is a lie or not."

However this may be, lie or not, I believe that Rinda's interpretation makes a lot of sense.
You walk in the courtyard and the other people there perhaps gossip and lie Jupiter out of the sky.
But you don't even notice their presence. You are alone, resting in yourself. What can touch you? :)

Hi Zelda,
In my view 34.0 here means that the sender is trying to force you, perhaps trying to force you to see things in a certain way. 52.0 indicates that you are not swayed by the force.
So the text message might be a lie, as people do sometimes lie when they try to persuade someone.

The conflict that 61.3 is about, is one where two people deliberately act opposite to each other. That may indicate that the person was lying. It is however also possible that just because one person wants to initiate something, the other is going against that, without either one lying.
