When asked what holds for me in my near future, I got 1.6 >? 43
I am bit confused. I think I ching is trying to warn me about something. any advice?

1.6 is about taking on more responsibilities than you can handle. I think the I Ching is advising you to stay focused on your immediate present and not try to look so far ahead.

Gia-Fu's Taoist translation for hex1.6 is
ARROGANT DRAGON REPENTS. It is time to fall back.

In general the 6th line place is the transition to the Next. In hex 1 Creative or Sunshine, this represents the sunset when the sun must yield to the moon and stars. If your question was just a general inquiry without some major project that you were carrying on to excess, this oracle could mean tomorrow will take care of itself, focus upon what is up with you NOW.

Personally, I would split the difference and think the Oracle was asking for a more focused question. The Yi spirit is sometimes playful and takes your question exactly as you phrase it and answers like a 3,000 year old impish sprite. It is clearly suggesting you work on your own internal state, not warning of impending external problems or what is coming in the abstract near future out there.

Then again, its your oracle and you might be charging ahead to make your life and world totally different immediately and the oracle is just describing that process which having only a total focus upon what is completely new and different may well trip over the door jamb of the future and a note to take care of exactly where you put your feet as you lift the whole world may be in order. I don't know.

I also think there is insight in the advice given in the Image of 43:

"The superior man dispenses riches downward and refrains from resting on his virtue."

This sounds like a directive to recycle. Pass on the old clothes before you go shopping for more. Or pass on what you have learned before you take up a new study. The immediate future will be pretty much more of the same, so to go to a higher level, complete and release what you are responsible for now.

Thinking about this and why it should be necessary to pass on what we have before we can obtain something new...First the obvious, your closet will become stuffed if you don't. But then, I think there is something that happens when we pass things on. Instinctively there is the desire to pass on what we have to where it will be honored or at least useful. It's hard to just load up grandma's china and donate it to the Goodwill, we want it to go to someone who will appreciate it and all it's history, but if we try to conscientiously find each toothpick a new home we get so bogged down we can't move. So the act of passing things on forces us to consider while we are in the act of accumulating not just how can we get this, but also what will we do with it when we out grow it? In your question, What does the future hold? I think the I Ching is saying you will receive more of the same of what you have now, same energy, but the important thing is What will you do with it?

Hmm..Maybe the key phrase here could be "What goes around comes around," the idea being that at the end of the day (1.6), as we release our hold on our vision of reality and drift off to sleep our prayers of gratitude are heard and our higher spirit then knows what we want more of and "dispenses riches downward" and lo, the next day, the immediate future, is filled with our prayers being answered!

So now I'm seeing 1.6 > 43 as meaning not "Focus on the present, don't worry about the future," but rather as God saying, "The future can be anything you want it to be, but don't expect Me to do all the creating. We are co-creators here. Show me what you like so far and we'll create some more just like it."

Its possible 1.6 is warning you not to be arrogant. Advice ? Well check yourself out for arrogance - or over playing your hand. Continued arrogance may mean...no one hears you when you need them to, (43.6 - the fan yao)
