Hi all,
Im not sure if this is the right place to into myself but anyway - Im stephen & i live in south africa. I first read about the iching many years ago in a book about tai chi (written by lawrence galante) To make a long story short, my life has fallen apart in the last 2 years & somehow i found my way back to that same book and to the iching. I am hoping that the iching can help me find some direction in an otherwise (seemingly) senseless existence

Well, you can start with asking that question to i ching...

Welcome to Clarity, Stephen. If you'd like, you could post a casting and query in Shared Readings. I don't think anyone's existence is senseless, although existence can be troubled.

Hi Stephen. If you go to Shared Readings you will see examples. The I Ching is consulted by asking a question (the query), constructing the hexagram by casting, and then interpreting the casting as an answer to the question. Such interpretation is called a reading.

If you would like a professional reading from Hilary, you could contact her. If you would like free help with interpretation, post casting and question to Shared Readings, and several volunteer readers are likely to respond.

If you do not know how to consult the I Ching using coins, you can use an Internet program that casts for you. To communicate your casting, use this form:

27.2.5 > 61, which means "hexagram 27 with lines 2 and 5 changing gives hexagram 61."

The question you ask may be about anything -- relationship, employment, education, health, etc. Some readers don't like a yes or no question, but others don't mind. It's nice if you include a bit of background that explains why the question is important to you, but it isn't always necessary.

Hi Stephen and welcome to clarity. I hope you understand that I am not being glib when I say that when a life "falls apart" it is a very profound and hopeful time. So I offer the encouragement not to fear this but be open to what the change is making room for. The I ching has the hexagram 23 which decribes those times when things/people/lifestyles/titles seemed to be stripped away from us, and altho at these times, we may feel helpless and confused, there is purpose and movement.
The I ching has helped me and many others here through similar times. so I think it is a wonderful tool to use thoughtfully and like a compass. A question I have found to be helpful is: "what is the most helpful attitude for me to cultivate in the midst of this troubling time?" like Pocossin says, if you post a question and the answer you received in Shared REadings, the people here can assist you in divining the meaning of your response.

my life was pretty much falling apart once and I was quite confused. I just happened to accompany my daughter who wanted to go see a psychic tarot reader. I did not want my cards read, I felt it would be too dismal and I felt fragile.
