Is this workplace right for me?

Dear everyone,

I asked the above question today after a remarkably bad day at work, which I must stress I have not had even once since I started 9 months ago (I try to stay far away from office politics hence I am in the safe zone most days). I talked about my frustrations with and to my colleagues who seemed to encourage me that I am not in the wrong with how I've been experiencing things, but I still wonder whether I am in the right place at all. So I cast 5.2.6>37

I can see lines 2 and 6 having taken place during the course of the work day today (and easily happening again), but I am unsure as to how 37 fits into this, or what the general message of the cast is for me? Is it "not perfect right now, wait it out & keep an open mind, it'll match your skills better before you know it" or what?

Thanks for your insight! :)

K

I think 37 is just reflecting that you work with a group, and just like a family, everyone has a role in the group.

I find this to be a very interesting reading, as I think there is a very definite spiritual lesson in these lines. First, the overall theme in this reading is that of remaining calm. The commentary on line two says, "Disagreements crop up. General unrest can develop in such times, and we lay the blame on one another. He who remains calm will succeed in making things go well in the end." The key words here are "in the end." The workplace may be hard to accept at present, but it does not have to stay that way. At least not if you follow the advice. Line six carries a similar connotation. The line says, "Honor them, and in the end there will be good fortune." Once again, it is talking about "in the end." Not right now. In other words, you will have to persevere when things seem tough.

Next, the commentary on line two says. Slander will be silenced if we do not gratify it with injured retorts. It appears that it is a situation where you are just going to have to go about your work, and not worry too much about what is going on around you. And finally, the commentary on line six says, "Even happy turns of fortune often come in a form that at first seems strange to us."

And finally, hexagram thirty seven. The judgment says, "The perseverance of yin energy furthers." And what is yin energy? It is the receptive, and devoted energy. If you confine yourself to your work, and do not allow the things going on around you to distract you, you should find eventually that the workplace transforms itself into a "family" environment for you. Things will change. It will just take time. The key to making the change is to maintain calmness, dignity, and composure. Though you did not get this line, I think it fits: hexagram fifty line two. "My comrades are envious but they cannot harm me."

Thanks Gene! A spiritual lesson you say? Ah, how right you are with that - I am the least patient person and this job has really strecthed my abilities to the point where I'm starting to think that maybe I can be patient without feeling like it's a burden! So basically carry on as I have from the beginning and wait out this time when everything around us is still making everyone in the team uncertain, me included. Well, I must say, I'd rather wait than realise that "nope, this is not the place, "no game in the field"" :D

Thanks again :)

This reminds me, one of my colleagues was described as acting like the child in 37.1 and whom I had to put in her place (another cast some time ago), because she didn't know her place. This makes sense why I got 37 here aswell, because we are all meant to embrace our roles. Thanks for your comment!
