Job A or Job B?

Hi everyone,

I have to make some decisions about work fairly quickly, and am feeling conflicted, confused, and slightly overwhelmed. Usually the i ching helps in these situations, though today I just can't make sense of things. Any advice would be hugely appreciated...

I've been working at job A for the last six months. The pay is good; I feel valued and confident at my job, though sometimes under challenged. The boss knows I may be leaving and/or cutting down my hours, and is persuading me to stay...

I asked about continuing with job A: 4.4 to 64
Asked for advice about job A: 21.3.4 > 22

Job B is trying to recruit me. This job pays less but offers more challenge and potentially meaningful work.

Asked about job B: 21.1.3.5 > 33
Asked for advice about job B: 22 unchanging

I asked about the possibility of working at both jobs (I could work part time at each, but would have to be secretive about this due to a conflict of interest) :
8.3 > 39 (looks like a bad idea, unless this is just my own fears reflected)

So... I'm a bit confused by these readings, especially the 21s and 22s. Sometimes I take 22 to be saying, "relax, you can't do a whole lot now; and maybe this isn't such a big deal anyway." Though it seems a big deal to me now, as I need to make a decision ASAP! FWIW, I'm a teacher and my job requires a fair amount of responsibility.

hi Mary,

mine is going to be just a quick impression of your readings -hopefully more experienced readers will join in to help . .

looks to me that job B would be a better choice . . your readings seem to follow in progression here, from ongoing ignorance (4 to 64) to bite through to get where quality and performance meet (21 to 22) about job A; and then on to job B, biting through retreats (21 to 33) because you reach what you aimed for (22)

does that seem plausible to you? you wrote already that job B is more meaningful so maybe it's the place where you can put your assets to better use? I think 22 is a great hexagram for teaching, with its echoes of a company around a fire and the process of cultivating . .

best of luck!

Thanks so much, Rodaki :bows: You helped me see the connection between 21 and 22, and especially 22 in relation to teaching.

In terms of outcomes, it's trending more towards the relating hexs, with a retreat (33) from job B, while job A is still not completed (64). I was feeling stressed when I posted last week, perhaps because I wasn't really comfortable in saying yes to job b. Money is a concern, as I'd have to take a 40% salary cut. I'm also unsure how much "meaningful work" I'd actually have with job B. I did email a request for a higher rate, and they said they'd look into it. But I haven't heard back since last Thursday. Meanwhile, job A has been great, and I told them I'd stay on at least part time.

So maybe these readings (21s and 22s) reflect my ongoing teaching in general, while the where and with whom is still being played out. I don't want to stay with job A forever, but at least I feel less conflicted than last week.

Thanks again!
Mary

No, your reading was really helpful! It gave me the substance I needed-- more about teaching in general rather than specific jobs.

And FWIW, my readings for many years have always emphasized the relating hex as outcome rather than context. (I've always followed the Carl Jung method from Wilhelm's intro). I know it's usually the opposite on this site, and that can make it confusing...

So yes, what you said about biting through and campfires was absolutely beneficial to my situation

yes, 22 talks about such things but thinking more about it maybe it's more about self-cultivation than anything else -and what I should have taken into account: 22 does not help much when there's controversy lurking .. wish you all the best with your job situation!!
