Hello I-Chingers,

I just sent an application for a job I am interested in and received 54.1.4 > 7. My question was "What will be the outcome of my application?"

I take the result as a "Good, that you disciplined yourself and made the effort to write this application but it won't work out yet. They will invite you, but it will not be what you are searching for -- a later attempt will be successful."
Or, another interpretation:
"They will invite you, but only after a long while. And you won't have that much (creative) freedom in the job."

What do you think? Thanks in advance!

It's hard to say but I'd be more inclined to take it as this isn't quite the right opportunity for you. With 7 there I wonder if it's a bigger organisation or more corporate sort of environment where your individual contribution would be sort of swallowed up in all their existing systems and methods.

Marrying maiden's army does sound like subordinating oneself to organisational systems and procedures. Seems like the attitude of 'You're with us now so you do it this way'.

If you don't get this then line 4 is reassurance there is something else already on it's way in the manifestation pipeline I think.

I think line 1 maybe says you could do it but it wouldn't feel exactly right. I think if you had to do it you could but there's no real need to as other options come to the fore after a while.

I don't think at this stage this is a solid prediction. If it's not decided yet I don't think Yi necessarily can always give a prediction as such so you may get it but I'm not sure it's the best fit for you so it may be one to let pass. Have to see how it goes and if you get an interview what you think of the place.

It's not a bigger company, it is even very small but it is a consulting service for bigger companies so it is true that there are bigger companies behind it and indeed my individual contribution would be swallowed up by them of course. That wouldn't be a problem here though, since consulters shouldn't stand out anyways.

Marrying maiden's army does sound like subordinating oneself to organisational systems and procedures. Seems like the attitude of 'You're with us now so you do it this way'.

... this could be true as well. They want me (or let's say their new employee) to work more hours than I want to invest in my business life.

I think line 1 maybe says you could do it but it wouldn't feel exactly right. I think if you had to do it you could but there's no real need to as other options come to the fore after a while.

Possible. If they insist on a contract of 40 working hours a week I couldn't do this job, because I know that 40 agreed hours easily mean 50 or even 60 in this branch of industry.

If you don't get this then line 4 is reassurance there is something else already on it's way in the manifestation pipeline I think.

Manifestation pipeline is a lovely neologism. And the thought is comforting. :)

Mabye this result is predominantly mirroring my own abeyance.

I will update soon.
Thank you very much for your thoughtful answer, Trojina!

You were right Trojina, it wasn't the right opportunity for me. Thank you again for your interpretation.
I didn't get the job in the end. The potential employer was excited about my application and work samples at the beginning, then he realisized that I do not have enough experience in the field.
I am from the humanities, but the profile of the position is more fitting for economists. Strange that he invited me at all, it was quite clear from my CV where I come from and that I am not a marketing professional. Anyways, we stayed so that he turns to me when he would need me for certain projects.
54.4 could indicate that something more appropriate is waiting for me, as you said. 54.4 could also indicate a possible future cooperation with this company, as we had a good chemistry and have left this option open. But at the moment I am more inclined to think, that it will be something completely different which is in the "manifestation pipeline". ;) I will update in due time.

Still I'm unsure about Hex 7 as a relating hexagram. It's funny, since he seemed to be so unorganised, not really knowing what he wants from me. Maybe Hex 7 wanted to say that a state of being organised respectively unorganised will play a role in the whole process.

Another update: I sent an application for another job I am very interested in.

This time I casted 49.3 >17. Well, that doesn't look so good. Again this result points to an eventual success, but maybe not this time. 49.3 says that hasty action brings misfortune. I was sure not to act hastily, it took me hours to get the application ready. But I found a typo -- of course, after I sent it. Typos are never good, especially not in a business which is very much related to writing and language.

I am glad to hear about your experiences with 49.3>17.

Have a nice day and thanks!

But typos prove you are human and not a robot.

You haven't said exactly what the question was ? I'll take it that you asked for a general reading on this job.

Let's see the line, from Hilary's translation in wikiwing

‘Setting out to bring order means pitfall,
Constancy means danger.
Words of radical change draw near three times,
There is truth and confidence.’

My own experience of this line is that the 'three times' can seem never ending. Due to personal experiences I sometimes find this is like a bunch of people who take forever to come to any kind of consensus even when it is quite obvious what to do to you. I think one has all one needs to go ahead, yet cannot act just yet according to one's own vision, one has to wait for others to catch up and boy do they take a long time about it !

Here I'm not sure whether this might be referring to the employers you sent the application to, it may be they have quite a lengthy assessment process or if it refers to you own hesitancies about the application.

Radical change is needed but at line 3 one isn't entirely clear yet how much it is needed or in what way it is needed. It could be you have been having many inner debates about whether this is the right step or not in which case you are still in the process of doing more thinking.

But at least after all this thinking, by them or by you, this isn't a hasty reform of old patterns. It's well thought through and hence when the change is implemented it has a stability and strength to it.

So there's a lot more 'chewing over' to be done and I wouldn't surprise me if they have a rather prolonged and rigorous selection procedure where they have several interviews then they need to talk amongst themselves etc etc or maybe that process is already going on within you.

Exactly, that was the question. But after reading your interpreation, it became clear to me that the I-Ching is answering on a much larger scale here.
It's not just about a new job, it's about a new orientation. And it's not so much about the field I want to work in, but about the way I want my work to be organized. I would like to have a permanent position in a team where I can contribute my ideas and where I am valued for my efforts. So far I have made it as a freelancer. I thought it was a good idea because I like my freedom and independence. But slowly I realiue that I'd rather be involved in long-term projects -- instead of just going from job to job.

But typos prove you are human and not a robot.

True. But my profession revolves around the perfect use of language. At least it was just a small mistake. No reason to feel bad about it. Thanks for reminding me ;)

That's right, I have a vision, but others weren't yet convinced to give me a chance to realize it, at least not in the last months. So far my current application efforts have not been successful.

Also true. I'm struggling to figure out a strategy. I know what I want, but it's not clear how I can best get there. There are many ways and the danger of going the wrong path is great. In today's world of work, especially in the creative fields, it is common to drive people into self-exploitation. You work a lot for little money, only to gain references with the perspective of finally being discovered and supported by the right people at some point. But this is in most cases a fallacy that wastes valuable life time. And this fallacy is unfortunately intended by some profiteurs to make people work for free.

But at least after all this thinking, by them or by you, this isn't a hasty reform of old patterns. It's well thought through and hence when the change is implemented it has a stability and strength to it.

It's good to read that, and I believe in it myself. I am no longer willed to take jobs were my willingness to bring in my knowledge and my hard work aren't adequately paid.

So there's a lot more 'chewing over' to be done and I wouldn't surprise me if they have a rather prolonged and rigorous selection procedure where they have several interviews then they need to talk amongst themselves etc etc or maybe that process is already going on within you.

The longer I think about it, the more I understand that it is actually more about my inner processes than about the decisions of the outside world. Of course, I am still dependent on the outer world here.
It is a combination of my own necessary inner clarity and decisiveness and the luck of finding the right people I fit in with.

Thank you for your accurate interpretation, just as usual. Furthermore, your interpretation style always makes me think much further and deeper. I can't thank you enough for that!

Yes but also don't forget the outer can mirror the inner. Answers can manifest simultaneously on many levels. It can both be the case that you are deliberating, and I feel you are correct that this is to do with a whole reorientation for you as it's quite a 'big' answer , and that 'they' deliberate about you as you said

I have a vision, but others weren't yet convinced to give me a chance to realize it, at least not in the last months

...both convincing yourself and convincing them - it's hard work and requires patience.

I often experience impatience with this line but more patient people probably mind less.

I agree that the inner and outer mirror each other. That is why it is so challenging to move from a hopeless attitude to a hopeful one:
When one is insecure inside, the outside world becomes accordingly hesitant. Then, of course, one tends to become even more insecure. To which the outside world then reacts again accordingly. And so on. This can become a real downward spiral -- if you don't recognize this connection at some point and break the pattern.

By the way, I have already received an invitation to an interview!
Thanks again. I'll let you know what happens!

Spot on as usual @Trojina

Although I was quickly invited for an interview, the decision if I get the job is still pending. The date they wanted to let me know about it is now over two weeks overdue. I called them to ask what's going on and they said they will give me an update on the same day, which didn't happen. That was one week ago.
So, both is true: They are hesistant and I am also more than hesitant now whether this is the right place for me, if there is such an unprofessional and unappreciative handling of applicants.
I have decided to put the job search on ice for now. Instead I asked for a salary increase in the company I mainly work for and and they give me almost 20 % more money now :). That makes life a lot easier. Thank you again.

With 49.3, so in november 2018 you will have a job.

Well it doesn't look like I will have a new job, but I will have a job and my working situation improved a lot since I got an salary increase -- starting from november. :) Thank you again.
