Hi

I recently started a new job. I am not enjoying it very much and I suspect it is not the right job form me. Unfortunately, this is not something new. I am the kind of person who prefers to keep a low profile and I do not cope well with stress and pressure at work.

I asked the I Ching what was the right attitude to have toward this new job and I got:
Hex 58.3,4,5 > 11
My interpretation of the reading was a confirmation that the job is not right but I am not really sure that this is the correct interpretation. Maybe I need to stay with it for now?

I then asked whether I should go part-time (I can afford it) and spend more time on myself and my hobbies. I have this yearning to find a way to express myself creatively but this does not come easy either, so I was thinking of joining an art class to help me develop that side of me. I got:
Hex 51.4,5 > 3
I can see that the I Ching picks up on my fears and blockages but I do not understand whether it is supportive of the idea to go part-time.

Your comments and insights would be much appreciated. Thanks.

The right attitude is to stop day dreaming and get stuck into your work, as you mind seems to be constantly on other things, and this is making you despise the job as you really don't want to do it anyway, you are looking for an excuse to quit.

I then asked whether I should go part-time (I can afford it) and spend more time on myself and my hobbies. Hex 51.4,5 > 3

That's what you seem to want, so you might as well go for it.

Thank you, willowfox. I can certainly relate to the comments on daydreaming but I do not understand the second reading in this context.

Maybe I am trying too hard to do the right thing, but I really feel split about this. Is my desire to work part-time another form of escapism and daydreaming or is it a reflection of something more genuine?

I would be very grateful for further comments from you and/or others.

It suggests that you are feeling lost, not sure what to do for the best or for your own happiness, so you need to make your mind up, as the idea of doing only part time is leaning towards escapism.

Many thanks. Yes, I feel lost. If I understand correctly, then this is not about my job being better than my 'hobbies' (or viceversa) nor it is about finding the 'right' profession but it is about me committing myself to one thing and giving it my full attention?

Yes, you have to decide what it is you want from life and stop finding excuses.
