I was looking for different takes today on old posts for the static hexagram 36, and read something about how your reading is mostly found through intuition. Then i began wondering well if thats so, and iching is finding your own answers intuitively then why do ppl take some readings VERY literal, like say if you have this or that then you get this and the core of X is Y... personally i dont think it should be made into a mathematical formula.. are there mathematical divininators (? is that a word lol) that read the iching the same way western'ers read theirs.. it seems we mixed up a bit too much of our way of figuring things out with theirs :D

IMO, it's like the tarot. Let me explain:

Symbols depict realities, and these realities when viewed from a perspective with a bias will form meaning.

The glass half full, half empty?

The arrangement of the cards and the positions further narrow down the scope of the realities.

IMO, this is why a question is required prior to consulting with the iching.

In the real world for example, our cultures, religion, etc. creates these biases, which help us define what something is. The most fundamental definition for example is placed against Good vs. Evil.

Ergo, there will be different takes on the cast. Taking things out of context in a long interview is an example of bias in action.

Therefore, what a person sees in a cast, given the boundaries provided by the images and lines, reflects his bias. And thus through this bias, he contemplates, and thus create meaning, and then judgement on the issues that are brought into surface.
