At the moment the kombi sometimes starts and sometimes not. If I tap the starter motor and/or the solenoid or clutch start it the engine starts.

Show me the problem being the ignition switch

Hex 6.5>64

Line 5 - arguing but good fortune from the source...Hmmm not sure what that means in this case

Show me the problem actually being the solenoid

Hex 2 unchanging

Sounds to me that the solenoid is fine and it is just waiting patiently in the dark to be ignited.

This line refers to a mediator so probably something there is not working properly. Hex 64 brings in mind the gap between where we are and where we want to go. So maybe the power doesn't reach the other shore

hex 2 for the solenoid is such an apt answer !! Seems it receives , as you said. or since you asked as problem could also be that it doesn't .

How helpful-not, I am . Sorry :(

Does the solenoid make a rapid clicking sound when you turn the ignition switch?

A solenoid is a switch which closes all contacts to the high current needed to turn over the engine. As soon as the engine is running, the solenoid opens again. 2 would imply to me that the solenoid is open, 64 would imply the contacts are not (yet) closing (connecting) the circuit, thereby causing the conflict.

I'd check the battery and all contact points leading to the starter's solenoid. Of course sometimes a solenoid switch itself goes bad. But I'd first make sure your battery is holding a charge.

Thanks meng. It turns out all the wires had got twisted and twisted at the ignition barrel so the mechanic untwisted them and sorted it so I don't have to turn it far to start the kombi. This comes from heavy handed people I've allowed to drive the vehicle. No more! I will be the only one that drives it. - Liss
