Hey everyone! I've been learning Spanish for a couple of months now, and planned on attending a language school in the summer to prepare myself to attend university in Spain. Coronavirus has definitely disrupted my plans-- the school has informed me they are indefinitely suspending operations, and so now my timeline of knowing I'll be fluent enough to apply to a Spanish taught university course by a certain date has instead become a big unknown.

At the same time, I've always felt a strong desire to learn Chinese. It's on my bucket list anyways, and lately I've been reading Chinese works translated to English, and I've seen a few people online commenting on how the translation from Chinese to English obliterates a lot of nuance. I've been wanting to learn Chinese, but it's generally seen as bad for your progress to learn two languages at once. The way I see it, the Spanish path I had been working on will still be there once society transitions to whatever post-covid normal looks like, and so it's still an option waiting for me whenever that day comes. And since I'm already fluent in French, I've found learning this second romance language has come to me a lot more easily than learning French did.

Until then, learning Chinese and exploring Chinese culture could be a nice project to keep myself sane during quarantine, however long it lasts. So I asked I Ching "would it be prudent for me to start learning Chinese instead of Spanish?" and got the response 49.2 > 43. To me this is I Ching saying, this change is a good one to make but it needs to happen at the right moment. But that also when I do make the change I actually have to stick with it? Or that I have to be absolutely sure about it?

I thought it was a little strange to get such a clear Yes, so I asked again just to see what else might be a "good change". So I asked about learning Japanese, which is also on my bucket list but hasn't been something I've been feeling any strong pull towards lately, and got 29.4.5 changing to 40. My translation has this to say: "this hexagram... deals with danger and its effect on the heart and mind, and how to get out of old habits and delusions." Changing to 40 "danger leads to movement, movement averts danger." Which all sounds like I'm being cautioned against falling into my habit of picking up and quickly dropping hobbies and projects. That a change here is good, and I cannot stand around not making up my mind, but also that if I do take action/ create change, I should be sure to make sure it's the right choice.

I'd love to hear any feedback! Thanks for reading.
