Hello Fellow Seekers of the Truth

The I Ching is truly the most accurate and profound form of divination. The Tarot caused some confusion when it kept showing me Knight of Wands (my love coming home from across the seas) and 2 Cups -- when it was just that I was reuniting with him through mail and on the phone. The pendulum gives me incorrect answers at times.

True to the hexagrams I have been drawing constantly with questions about my relationship with my man in Germany, 24 has really meant a renewal. Where 3 months ago I wasn't sure he'd come back at all in a hurry -- now I know that he will probably by March April -- because he told me that when he called me for the New Year. Amost wonderful conversation where I was also able to clear a big misunderstanding: I have discovered that I CAN move abroad to join him when the time comes -- that is when he finishes his PhD. That changes it all for us. We were so upset by the fact that he will not find the sort of employment he wants here in India and neither can I move abroad away from the temple after taking the Oath. One huge obstacle overcome with no effort at all! And with 22 that I still get, as Hilary said, his intentions are good. yes we have a long term long distance relationship going and I think that's it's rare indeed to feel so strongly connected to someone that both can't envision life or love with anyone else -- even when you're so far apart most of the time.

The Yi kept telling me -- that if I waited, the solution would come of itself. And it did when I asked Sensei about moving abroad.

Presently the Yi has given me 59 twice through the yarrow method when I asked if he will write again soon and whether he is my future mate.

It seems to me that 59 is about overcoming estrangement and reuniting. I don't need to ask the Yi for advice because anyway, it gives me the advice every time. I also draw hex 6, line 5 often -- conflict followed by supreme good fortune. Any suggestions here?

Meanwhile, once again a happy new year to all.

Hello Fellow Seekers of the Truth,

Hilary, your insight that I need to work on myself is absolutely true. In my case especially so since I have a divine calling. If I weren't going to the temple everyday and making offerings to Heaven, 59 would worry me. But because I'm doing just that -- the King approaches his temple -- I am happy. It is said on our path that one who seriously cultivates himself need have no anxiety. I know, I know, but I still get anxious because I'm not with him most of the year. It is so easy to drift away from each other and the fact that you don't means there is great love here. As I have mentioned before, he too loves my path and has adopted it.

If you notice Hilary, the seciond time I drew 59, I did get a moving line - line 5 which refers to the king scattering perspiration and distributing his treasures among the needy and thus getting rid of his cause for anxiety.

Guy Damian Knight in his 'I Ching on Love' (great book) says of this line:

It sometimes happens during times of pain that a great and redeeming idea bubbles to the surface. At such times there is nothing more powerful than a brilliant idea for reconciling the heart and bringing people together in an otherwise impossible situation. In the light of such an elevating idea, misconceptions give way to real understanding.

In the same book by Guy Damian Knight the introduction to this hexagram says:

While all these internal realisations are taking place, you may be called upon to act in the service of morally superior aims in the external world. Throw yourself into this work with unabashed honesty and uncompromising tenacity (and that means not debasing myself by acting the part of a stripper)and integrity, and in your dealings with others treat them with the utmost forbearance and gentleness, keeping yourself at all times free from selfish motives...It is one thing to describe the elevated aims of mankind, but it is quite another to set a personal example.

But where do I get the idea of reuniting? R.L. Wing's 'The Illustrated I Ching' (another wonderful book) where the judgement reads:

Reuniting will bring progress. The ruler approaches the meeting place. It is advantageous to experience the collective flow. There is further advantage in correct persistence.

The introduction goes on to say:

This is a particularly important time in personal relationships and within. The family is a direct reflection of society, being the smallest social unit. A society or family that forgets where it came from cannot know where it is going. Without a periodic renewal and Reuniting among members of the family through practice of family traditions, religious ritual or family recreation, the members drift ever further from one another. Make an effort to transcend the things that divide you from others. Focus on issues that may bring everyone together in mutual accord...It is time to break up that which divides, for isolation brings discord. You must devote yourself to a cause or task of some real significance in the world.

I know that we share the same views about The Way of Heaven. And this will reunite us. I believe I have drawn this hexagram because of this time of adversity - my separation from him which is due to circumstances that cannot be controlled and are external, not internal.

To Pam who wonders what this sort of marriage can be like -- please remember that I follow the advice of the Yi and when I'm advised to wait, I wait, instead of pushing forward. This is why Confucius said that if he had longer to live and work with the Yi, he would be the blameless man.

Please also know that at my age of 46, it's not easy to stick to a love that is far away from you most of the time. It is like throwing oneself into the sea of the unknown -- yet how beautiful it is! How wonderful to always know that you are greatly loved -- wherever your lover may be and nothing can make you unfaithful to each other!

When I have asked the Yi if I should remain faithful to him, it has always asked to to persevere and get rewarded. Not once has it suggested a break up.

I hope all these various interpretations -- from others and myself enrich everyone's understanding of this particular hexagram.

Best for your Quest

Anita
