I'm considering leaving my quite difficult and stunted job next year, perhaps around summertime. It would be a financial risk in some ways as I would become dependent on my partner but he is encouraging me to consider the idea. I already manage the business side of his career and I would have more time to do that if I left my job, as well as pursue my own creative projects. We live very frugally with low overhead expenses, so we're not in danger of starvation or homelessness even if his career hit a low point and I was not bringing in outside income.

I've posted about my current job in the past-- it has enough perks to have kept me there for several years, but it is not ideal at all in the long run as my boss is mentally ill. I'm pleased that I've lasted there as long as I have and developed my abilities in dealing with difficult people and creating harmonious atmospheres out of chaos (that is my real job description, just not the one that goes on a resume). But, I feel like I've reached a point where I am not having any more growth in the position and I hope my time there is winding down.

Also, if worse came to worse I could find another job I think relatively easily after leaving if I realized it was financially precarious after a few months. We live in an area with low unemployment and have a good network of connections.

I asked Yi, "What would come of leaving my job at X in 2014?" and received 15.2.3 changing into 7.

I think this is quite positive but I am always cautious in interpreting Modesty as I have read so many times that it is one of the most mis-interpreted hexagrams, the Chinese meaning being quite far from the English definition of "modesty". It's also not a hexagram I frequently receive so I can't pin it to past experiences in my life for context.

The Army gives me pause for a moment, but my experience with that hexagram is generally positive. I associate it with hard work, but the kind that bears fruit.

Does anyone else have insights? Or a general intuitive feeling from the reading as a whole? I am very grateful for any considerations.

Oh, also one more note-- I asked about the summer of 2014, which I know is quite a long way away in Yi terms, because I would like to give my boss as much as 3 months notice, or even 4, before leaving. She will not be happy to see me go and I want to leave on good terms with her, which will mean fully training my replacement. So, I would give notice sometime around March ideally.

Thank you!

No one answered this yet....sometimes the quieter threads where people aren't shrieking out in agony get bypassed....but I heard medics at accidents scenes go to the quieter ones first because the ones that are shouting are awake and okay...

..not that we old timers at clarity are like paramedics........... we gave up hope of a uniform years ago....

So far on what you say here it sounds like a good situation to go into. Frees you up, you support one another...no crappy job and no danger of homelessness. I am envious.

Sounds like a natural departure point.

Great, you have a back up plan.

Yes the title 'modesty' is misleading. Hexagram 15 is about modesty in the sense of being realistic, both feet on the ground. Seeing what is needed and doing it without fuss, but also realising sometimes what happens is not all down to you. So it's modesty in being aware of your part in things, of your place, of how and where your efforts fit in. It is also about being simply who you are...and this isn't always about being modest in the way we think of it. Hexagram 15 is not always encouraging you to take a back seat, be shy and unassuming....if it's your place to step up to the plate then you have to do so, False modesty must not get in the way of needed action. I have the idea Lise talks of hex 15 as like 2 wings...I will link to her site if I find it. I imagine 2 wings because there is a balance needed. Often in life we either over estimate or under estimate our abilities...or we misjudge what our part to play really is. Hexagram 15 always asks us to look at how real we are being here.

You are being very real. You are very aware of your place in the whole situation. You are not on any mad flight of fantasy. Your goals are in line with the reality of the situation. What a lovely wholesome practical answer. I think it is going to be great if you leave your job next year. It's a well planned, well thought out, realistic....15.2 and 15.3 show intergrity, working...steadiness. So it may be hard work but it's good. So I think this is a very good plan

Thank you, Trojan, for your incredibly gracious and insightful response to my post from last October. It is really delightful and reassuring to read, especially as I just quit the job in question. I feel good about the future and I think it will all work out for the best, though the present moment is challenging (my boss insisted on a month's notice, which I agreed to, but is now being quite unpleasant to me in the office). I made a post just a few minutes ago about that situation and dealing with her bullying today...and got 52.2 into 18, which seems an accurate picture of the present. I tend to have good associations with 18 too. It is a hexagram I associate with working through difficulties to a better end. The 15.2.3 reading from October about the broader picture is very reassuring to think about. My gut feeling matches it.

Again, thank you, Trojan!
