I've been thinking about the lies that we tell ourselves - the ones that take a seat in our consciousness and can even begin to direct our course if we don't stay aware, vigilant.

I asked the Yi about this asking: "How to dislodge a lie?"

The result was VERY interesting... 24.2.3.4.5.6 FIVE changing lines, all old yin, becoming the primary figure, number 1.

I would love very much to view your insight into this response - both the hexagram itself as well as the significance of 5 lines changing.

Merriest day to all of you....

I think you mean becoming the changing or related or second hexagram? The first one with change lines is considered the primary hexagram.

I agree with your opening comment, we can fool ourselves, or misunderstand reality or misinterpret Yi's answers.

That's a remarkable transformation from 24 to 1, from just one yang entering from below, to an entire monolith of all yang. Reminds me of how a small lie can grow into an all-consuming fabrication.

The core is what one returns to, and the core is 1 - the yang line is at the bottom, born from yin, and then grows all the way to the top, in one swoop! Sounds like Jack and his beanstalk.

I never take h1 for good or right, anymore than I'd take h2 for bad and wrong. h1 can as well be associated with death as with life, or possibly with the dead as well with the living. h1 is active in wars. To me, that is the value of this thing, Yijing; it is grounding. A wild dragon helps no one, so it must be contained, and its creativity directed true to the core. But here again, we may create a monster, when we thought we were following a savior.
stay aware, vigilant

Return back to the beginning where you are free & less burdened.

The answer you received reminds me of that saying:

"Its hard to soar like an Eagle(or Dragon) when you are surrounded by Turkeys( the lies)"

My mother had a magnet with this quote on her fridge. I havent thought about that saying in a long time.

I really like the answer that was given to you, along with the question too. It got my wheels turning.

I think the point is well-taken, but the fact is that everything we say and think about is a lie, because language cannot comprehend all of reality. The whole of things is ineffable. So the five moving yin lines say that we must negate what is negative to get what is true.

White owl, I'm glad it was thought provoking for you, it is for me too!

Sooo - In reference to what you said about the first hexagram, I meant that as the primary seed figure or prima materia. What do you think about that? Like you said it's not so much good or bad, just is that is that. I think of it as a part of an alchemical combination or maybe even the impulse for alchemy.

Overall, I think the most interesting thing is that the beginning of 24 (the primary figure ;) ) is Yang and the second line, which as I use it represents the heart of the asker or the inner life, is the first thing to change. Then, all the rest changes as well. How cool!

icastes - you bring up a very interesting point but I think extends even beyond just what we say, but very esoterically: all is illusory, the "truth" and the "lies" (though I want to disclaim i do personally believe such thing called truth does exist) and it is in negating the negative we see through our own illusions. That reminds me of the simple idea that turning on the lights, the dark dispels.

You guys are very interesting, thanks for your responses. this is a reading that could be the basis of loads of discussion. (probably even a Ph.d.!).
