Hexagram 20, Seeing

Key Questions

When you stop searching, what comes into view?
If you had no preconceptions, what might you see?

Oracle

‘Seeing. Washing hands, and not making the offering.
There is truth and confidence like a presence.’

To see is not to focus on some specific thing, but to witness everything that comes into view, with open awareness like a heron seeing a lake.

In the ritual, the everyday world is washed off – and then there is a breathless pause. It is not yet time to make the offering, but only to watch for what comes, ‘like a presence’, into the space. In ordinary life, also, you can pause before falling automatically into the next step of the process, and see what is present before you respond. Into this space between actions comes truth, its presence as unmistakable as a great person’s aura. You need only watch for it as it comes.

Image

‘Wind moves over the earth: Seeing.
The ancient kings studied the regions,
Saw the people,
And established their teachings.’

Sequence

Seeing follows from Hexagram 19, Nearing:
‘What is great allows Seeing.’

Changing Lines

Line 1

‘A child seeing.
For small people, no mistake.
For a noble one, shame.’

Line 4

‘Seeing the realm shining out.
Fruitful and useful to be a guest of the king.’

Line 6

‘Seeing their lives.
The noble one is without mistake.’

Hexagram 17, Following

Key Questions

How are things flowing, and how can you move with them?
Where are you being nudged and guided?

Oracle

‘Following.
From the source, creating success, constancy bears fruit.
No mistake.’

Energy flows strongly into life’s landscapes, bringing a great creative drive, from the source through towards fulfilment. Following it means a willingness to honour the flow and align actions with it. You can know your ideal, and then allow it to meld with the natural current, following signs and nudges and allowing them to draw you onward.

Then, you may experience Following as an effortless flow of supportive synchronicities – or you may experience it as events unfolding in accordance with their own schedule, and failing to keep to yours. It can seem as if simply allowing yourself to be guided by the current is not enough, and you ought to be ‘doing something’. But moving with the creative process is not a mistake.

Image

‘At the centre of the lake is thunder: Following.
A noble one at nightfall
Goes inside for renewal and rest.’

Sequence

Following comes from Hexagram 16, Enthusiasm:
‘Enthusiasm naturally means Following.’

Seeing things as a child would see them. Follow the child within to seeing yourself as a guest of the king

I think you will find you get more responses Julia if you write in your own words what the cast was and your own thoughts on it rather than copy all the stuff from the online readings thing.

People need to see what change lines you had. I know I'm not keen on wading through all the copied on line stuff. So your reading would be written as 20.1.4.6>17. I'm saying this because if it isn't written like that people have to figure it out....it's just much easier so you'll usually get more answers if you do it that way. Also it is good if you just share your thoughts on the cast.

So I think this is a time where maybe you are both still waiting to see what they think. The answer may be about you or him. It is difficult to interpret when you ask about someone else's thoughts. To me this looks like it is too early to come to decisions about commitment. The 17 makes me think there is a devotional aspect here but one has to choose wisely where one gives one's devotion. Currently, if the answer does describe him then I'd say he is contemplating the relationship but there is sincerity in this (17).

However this answer may be advice to you to contemplate this well yourself. It can mean that rather than consult Yi you take some time to really look at this relationship to see what's there. Are you the lady who's husband died three years ago ? I think so. If so I wondered if the 20.1 where you are asked if you look at things like a child was referring to you thinking in a similar way to when you first courted your husband. For example if you met your husband when very young you would have seen it a certain way because of your youth and maybe now you have to allow for you and the man being older, having a different view on relationships and so on ?

I missed this post till today, as I didn't check the box to have the reply come to my email. I never heard anything so assumed no one replied. (I'm still learning how to post.) I will try to next time post my thoughts not the reading, though I did that again earlier today. So yes I am the woman who lost her husband 3 yrs ago and am in the beginnings of a new relationship that is challenging in several ways.
Thank you for your words and thoughts. Julia F.

Wilhelm, h20:
The ablution has been made, But not yet the offering.
Full of trust they look up to him.

I think he looks up to you, wanting to be closer (guest of a king) but still unsure of himself (.1 as a boy), contemplating his character (.6).
He wants a sign from you, a command that he will eagerly follow (h17) and then he will present his offerings.

He doesn't have anyone else on his mind (ablution has been made).
