Luminous Full Moon dream vs. 36 unchanging?

Hello everyone!šŸŒ·

Last night I dreamt of an enormous dazzling Full Moon, so close to Earth I could almost touch it. I was so happy to see it, revealed. The dream setting felt fairytaleish, with its gently undulating dark hills and little lights popping around in the darkness, like fireflies. Clarissa Pinkola EstƩs says that night-time in a fairy or folk tale symbolises the unconscious; if so, my dream could not point any more fingers at it if it tried.

I woke up feeling reassured. But when I went to consult Yi about it, the answer came as 36, Brightness Hidden... Thing is, I felt that my dream implied the exact opposite: that Iā€™ve integrated the previously shunned parts of me sufficiently for my unconscious, largely expressed in my novels, to shine brightly for the whole world to see. What, then could Yi be going on about?

Background I: I've learned to dim my light when I was little, because it got me in trouble with other girls. But I showered my father with it, until one day he stopped paying attention (this pattern continued with every man I was with, but is no longer a thing). My mother mocked my talents, or clear ignored them as she couldnā€™t relate. Eventually, I swapped them for booze. After a decade and a half spent in the gloom, I stumbled into the light of recovery. Nineteen years on, Iā€™ve fully reconnected with my precious creative spark. I write fiction, which remains largely invisible to its intended audience. So I survive by doing whatever: currently itā€™s a BA course so I could live off the student loan. But I keep on writing.
If the world saw my brightness (my novels), Iā€™d finally be able to live a life of focus and uninterrupted productivity. So why hexagram 36?

Background II: Iā€™m currently staying in my old country, having a serious dental work done. Yesterday was the last big op. Iā€™m swollen, a bit like a Moon in fact, but hopefully I can now finally start to heal... My family lives in the area, but I never told them I was here, because they are like needy children, taking even when giving - and they give a lot. So I am on my own, being my own source of strength (with a little help from my friends, naturally). This is a mega grown-up situation for me, you know: trusting myself to protect and take care of me and my forgotten inner child. Which is another reason Iā€™d like to imagine my dream was blessing my light, not asking it to go deeper into hiding.

Unless Hexagram 36 is describing my current situation: Iā€™m (happily) cooped up in a rather splendidly faded neoclassical apartment, waiting for the post-operative swelling to come and go, so I, too, can go out into the world without freaking people out?

Except, I did ask specifically for Yiā€™s comment on my brilliant Full Moon dream. But Yi can be like this sometimes, point the obvious or chat about whatever, regardless of the actual question.

Any thoughts?

Thank you.šŸŒ•

Hi grace heart
You have not stated a clear question and that can sometimes help with getting a clear interpretation. So I'll make a few general comments and you can feedback if they resonate with you in some way.

Hex 36 also known as 'Brilliance Injured' (A Huang). One thing the hexagram can signify is an encouragement to hold back, as going forward, in your current state of being, can be a risky in some way for you. Circumstances may not favour you going forward with all your light shining - reflect on where, when and how it might be advantageous for you to utilise a dimmer switch.

The Judgement: It is favourable to be steadfast and upright in hardship.

The Image: The superior person remains in harmony with the multitude. Covering his brilliance yet his light is still shining.

Maybe a call to you to hang onto this inner brightness that you have acquired, after a difficult early life, as sharing it or changing your disposition from what it has been may lead to discord in some situations.

The nuclear of 36 is 40 Relief which contains a deep sense of letting things take their time. Respecting that healing progresses at it's own pace. In your dream, as a part of this process, it may be the full moon is shining a clear light signifying the closeness of the end of one cycle but also illuminating the continued inner challenges you might be facing with respect to forgiveness and compassion towards aspects of self or maybe even certain others.

... of course, it may mean nothing like this at all for you.

Good Luck

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply, my_key!

The question was, ā€œWhat is the meaning of my Full Moon dream?"

Much appreciate your input, especially the part about hanging onto the inner brightness I have acquired. And the implied significance of the nuclear hexagram.

Thank you!

Hi Grace heart it's a do lovely to 'see' you on here again. Have you been gone for a while because I feel like you have?

The dream sounds beautiful BUT I think this is a reflection of YOUR Wounded Brightness still existing-

If the world saw my brightness (my novels), Iā€™d finally be able to live a life of focus and uninterrupted productivity. So why hexagram 36?

You said the dream had a fantasy feel to it....is it suggesting you write Fairytales or is it suggesting to stop fantasising about shining you brightness and just Shine?

Hi becalm - nice to see yo too. I was here, lurking in the background, reading old posts, but maybe havenā€™t been pestering the good people of the I Ching Community for their insights all the much.

Wow. Iā€™m actually in the middle of writing a Middle Grade fantasy. Not really my cup of tea, but I promised a friendā€™s daughter Iā€™ll feature her as the main protagonist in one of my novels, soooo... Itā€™s a great fun. Writes itself.

Also, yesterday I received a notification that one of my short stories had been long-listed for Bridport Short Story competition (again), but didnā€™t progress onto a shortlist (again). I was annoyed at first, and quite dramatically forlorn, briefly (which I blame on this whole post-operative state of mind). By the evening, I ā€œcame up with the idea all by myselfā€ that I should focus on selling my stories to the magazines, rather then entering them into competitions. Letā€™s see how they fare in the real world. This cheered me up no end. šŸŽˆ

Thank again for your šŸ’Ž input. All the best!

To me this reading feels quite simple, the clue was in this sentence of yours.

Maybe there is a sense of writing "by moonlight" - it's not yet your day job. While that might feel like a setback or a hiding of your brightness, it also grants much creative freedom. You are building worlds by night!

I relate to the moon and the fairytale feeling in dreams being deeply connected with a sense of precious creativity I would like to protect.

And you mention childhood wounds around your gift. Perhaps those are simply the unconscious place you are still exploring, and it is not quite time for your "moment to shine."

A beautiful reading, in my opinion!
