These hexagrams have no line disjunctures across the pair ? eg there is perfect line symmetry diagonally across the pair.

However the nuclear hexagrams and all of the lines excepting 19.4 & 20.3) lead to hexagrams which constitute sites of secondary transformative change.

But these links are all to the ?progressive? parts of these pairs.

See 9:10 for explanation of these mixed Progressive / Transforming pairs above.

His path is 'off'. Once you understand the Science behind the IC so all principles are brough to the fore - and there are a LOT of them. I have read through a lot of Karcher's work and find it more as attempts to exploit the original ERANOS material and as such is repetitious and offers nothing 'new' - it is so rooted within the 10BC model and as such is specialist and as such will fail to get the 'whole picture'. One has to move to the realm of the general, the SPECIES nature to get what the IC reflects - due to the specialisation it will be as incomplete as quantum mechanics is ;-)

Now as a promoter of some 'ancient magic' and so pandering to those who are attracted by the 'mystery' Karcher has promoted the IC and good for him. BUT as long as one does not get into the properties and methods of the species nature, as long as that is not done, as long as the properties and methods of meaning derivation are not understood, so you shall be wandering around in the dark and the text reflect 'mumbo jumbo' - to understand the IC you do NOT need to understand the Chinese element. It is useful but not necessary to get across the core concepts.

Now if we taught the principles, using the symbolisms, without reference to Ancient China there would be problems so some history is required but this wallowing in the traditional perspective is truely deplorable from a perspective 3000+ years down the line.

To me a lot of the re-publishing, re-selling of the IC reflects no understanding as to what is being delt with but more a way to 'make a living' without consideration of the benefits to the species - it is all self-interest and as such 'useful' to keep the mystery - it makes money. shame people, shame.

Karcher's focus as such in fact does a *dis-service* to the IC, its properties and methods, in that he shows the typical academic PhD perspective, over specialised, over focused on staying 'in' the box and selling the 'expertise'! I see none other than as a translator; the interpreter element is 'weak' IMHO ;-)

There is so much talent on this list but it is mis-directed, mis-guided, and as such guilty of neglect of the core principles of the IC - change is inevitable, deal with that!

ANY prediction system has its roots in how WE as a species process information. Each LOCAL collective, be it Ancient China or current Europe etc etc will have their local expressions but these *are LOCAL*. Behind the expressions will be us - our species-nature and that is what current neurosciences etc are revealing and in doing so reveal how 'out there' is reflected 'in here' etc etc. Understand those basics, the basics of your species-nature and all specialisations become simpler to understand and deal with.

I find all current work on the 10BC perspective a true waste. It is sad that such a useful GENERAL tool is being repressed by those who seem focused on self-interest, on being some specialist of some 'obscure chinese divination system' and as such f*uking- up the chance of 'spreading the word', seeding the IC far and wide, but from a empirically-demonstrated foundation and so teachable in schools etc etc not as some weird 'cult' but as a global method usable to see behind all facades.

Oh well, keep moving on, I suppose you, and others, need to follow your path. I will sit on this tree trunk here and be waiting for you all.

Have fun.

Chris, careful of that 'tree trunk'. This narrow end of it sticking out of the bushes may be quite comfortable to sit on, but does the bark look even a little bit like scales? I would advise against sticking pins in it, just in case.

Don't you just hate it when someone tells you the end before you finish the book.

63:64

The last of the special case hexagram pairs (11:12 17:18 63:64) Which can either be rotated through 180 degrees or change each line to its opposite to 'move' one to the other.

Again I have found no evidence of Transformative Change... maybe when I finish all of this and read Stephens article I will... till then posing it as 'Progressive Change'

It is of note that this pair is interesting as each one is each others nuclear hexagram... eg each one has the kernal within it to lead to the other. Stephen K calls them the 'Great Revolving Gates.'

An interesting pair

Note that the Tiger of change (10) puts in an appearance.

Also all of the hexagrams resulting from line changes are those which contain transformative or disjuncture lines.

This is a bit of a tiger in sheep?s clothing?

Things warming up as we approach the end of the Upper Cannon?

The beginnings of an explanation:

As we approach the end of the Upper Cannon (the first thirty hexagrams are purportedly the Dao of Heaven before the Lower Cannon 31:64 which is the Tao of Earthly matters. There are two pairs which are transformative in nature. 27:28 29:30.

Remember too 26:26 is also decidedly ?unstable? for a nice progressive change hexagram.

A few folk have emailed me asking how to read the maps. The left hand side of the column of numbers are the hexagrams which result from the left hand (of the pair of Hx?s) lines changing. The right hand side are the resulting hexagrams when the right hand side, of the pair, lines change.

Karcher has demonstrated that there are two completely different ?types? of hexagram.

First those which exhibit smooth energy change. Typically there is a nice cross pattern to the lines so for example 25.1 (25 line 1 gives Hx 12) and its partner 26.6 gives Hx11 ? the partner to Hx. 12. This is the Fan Yao which LiSe and Brad et al. were discussing in the thread ?Square Games?.

This first sort of hexagram Karcher calls ?Progressive change? For example we see a natural movement from Hx.3 Difficulty at the beginning ? the idea of a new shoot pushing up through the earth (or being born) ? to its pair ? Hx 4 Immaturity ? The time of being young and inexperienced.

The Second type of hexagram he calls ?Transformative Change? If you look at 27:28 below you will see a complete absence o the cross over line relationships between the pair. Indeed each hexagrams lines relate to its own lines only. So 27.1 finds its pair hexagram in 27.6? 27.2 in 27.5 and 27.3 in 27.4. The same goes for Hx.28.

Karcher proposes that there is a ?disruption? in the flow of change in these hexagrams across the pair. This ?disruption? is a transformative process ? Cross over and become transformed into someone different.

This split goes very deep. That is (staying with 27:28):

Hx 27 has a nuclear hexagram of 2 Most of the hexagrams being yielded by its changing lines will Yield nuclear hexagrams of 2 ? Sometimes in two steps. (Except lines 3 & 4 which yield 63:64)

Hx 28 has a nuclear hexagram of 1 ? The hexagrams being yielded by its changing lines will Yield nuclear hexagrams of 1. Sometimes in two steps. (Again lines 3 & 4 yield Hx 63:64)

Karcher proposed that the nuclear Hx pair could be seen as offering a bridge between the two sides of the pair. Or another way that the nuclear hexagrams 2:1 form a transforming gateway which is passed through as one moves back and forth across the pair ? Think Stargate here and you get the idea!

This is why the Transformative hexagrams are mapped differently.

But both sorts of hexagrams (progressive and Transformative) might be seen as in some way relating to 1:2 or 63:64 through their nuclear hexagrams. That is they draw energy of that particular quality from one of these root hexagrams.

So the mind leap is to start seeing patterns of energy flows through and between the hexagrams. In this way a readings can be seen as being seated in a deeper richer network of energy flow through time / space and the qualities and deeper potentials of that flow might be made plain.

Phew! ? Now back to mapping it ? I find the symmetry astonishing

Key to the colours (used only with Transformative Map):

Bright Red - That hexagrams nuclear hexagram is 1

Dull Red ? That hexagrams nuclear Hx is 1 only after passing through the nuclear Hx of another hexagram.

Bright Green - That hexagrams nuclear hexagram is 2 (or reduced through a second nuclear hexagram becomes 2)

Dull Green ? That hexagrams nuclear Hx is 2 only after passing through the nuclear Hx of another hexagram.

Bright Blue - That hexagrams nuclear hexagram is 63.

Dull Blue - That hexagrams nuclear Hx is 63 only after passing through the nuclear Hx of another hexagram.

Bright Yellow - That hexagrams nuclear hexagram is 64.

Dull Yellow That hexagrams nuclear Hx is 64 only after passing through the nuclear Hx of another hexagram.

Heres 27:28 again showing the nuclear hexagrams for each line change resulting hexagram... in brackets under).

1865.gif

And the same for the only other transformative pair yet coverred here 1:2

1866.gif

Notice that the line changes at the margins - the 'before the beginning' and the 'after the end' - Lines 1 & 6 - Relate directly back to one of the four key hexagrams - almost like these lines are carrying a direct link to the sources.

Ahh... more beautiful symmetry emerging.

Notice, in this and the two other Transformative maps above, the hexagrams in lines 3&4 always relate to 63:64.

And those at the limits relate to 1:2

That one side of the pair relates mainly to Hx2 and the other mainly to Hx1

That here in 29:30 the nuclear hexagrams at the limits (in lines 1&6) both have the same nuclear hexagrams which are mirrored across the pair... Just as 27:28 have the same feature.

Finally, in 29:30 there is a curious reflection back to 27:28... is this another revolving gate not dissimilar to 63:64?

This is the end of the upper Cannon of Heaven.

Observations:

Stephen Karcher proposes that the odd number or first of the pair (eg 27 in 27:28) is the inspiration to he pair and the second hexagram, the even numbered one is the manifestation or the making concrete o the inspiration.

Looking through the maps for the lower cannon I see that the ?inspirational hexagram? of every pair which reduces back to 63:64 is 64 ? Not yet completed.

This is until 17:18 is reached when the polarity switches so that the inspiration now is 63: Already complete and the manifestation side of the pair is 64: Not Yet Complete.

17:18 BTW is one of those three pairs in which each hx can be mirrored or rotated to make its opposite.

11:12 ? This is the only other Hx. like 17:18 (above) in this Cannon? does it herald {summon ;) }, the appearance of the Dragon in 13:14. 13:14 is the only hexagram pair in this Cannon which reduces through the nuclear hexagrams to Hx1

My last observations on this cannon is the ?Hidden Tiger of Change?? It appears three times? Once in Hx1 heralding the great entry of Hx2?

Once in Hx 6? and the very next Hexagram is the first to have Transformative Change or disjunctures in its lines!

Once in 25? Heralding the two primary Transformative Hexagrams which bring this Cannon to a close.

In Hx.10 itself (where it is in the open) it can bring about a transformative change back to Hx1 ? Dragon energy or catapult one through to 61 ? Connection to the Spirits.

No hexagram has 10 as a nuclear Hexagram ? The Tiger appears an lends its energy where it does and not to the core of other times.

Beware the Tiger when it is on your path - things happen!
