Hi everyone:)

I am currently looking for a new martial art. I have been practising contemporary and traditional kungfu for the past 3 years now. But at the school that I am ; there's no improvement for me anymore. I was scouting a couple of martial arts and I came down to these three: karate, taekwondo, wing chung. So I've asked the iching for all three: what is the outlook if I go on this martial art.

Taekwondo: 34.3>54

Karate: 41.5>61

Wing Chung: 1.2>13

So the choice is between karate and wing chung. What do you think?
They both seem very auspicious.

Remarkable answers. I'm no expert on such things but it appears to me:

Wing Chung is close quarters engagement (I think especially rapid and powerful kicks?), which seems to fit the striking lightening of 1.2 to the contact of 13.

Traditional karate places emphasis on self development, inner power and control of power, as well, of course, as kicking and punching - corresponding well with 41.5-61.

Well, taekwondo seems to be out.

Wing Chung seems to be okay, isn't that what Bruce Lee studied at the beginning of his career? Anyway, I thought some other styles might be appropriate, Snake, Dragon, Tiger blended together.

Karate also seems to be very much in your favour.

The thing is that if you have been studying Chinese martial arts then I don't think they are really that compatible with the Japanese martial arts, two very different approaches.

Meng- yeah wing chung is very fast indeed. I have already trained myself in wing chung punches, and I'm very fast now in chain punches.

Willowfox- yeah it was bruce lee's first martial art,and he got trained by one of the greatest wing chung masters Yip Man. As he got older he didn't stick to one style, because it felt to him that it was limiting to the fighter. Thats why he developed his own style, where the motto is: don't confine yourself with just one style, learn as much as you can from different styles and for your own. Because of Bruce Lee, Mixed Martial Arts came to existence(UFC etc). I don't really mind the differences in style, I can adapt quickly and still keep my own basics in stances. Anyway Maybe I'll try wing chung for now. Double Ch'ien seems really good.

Empty Hand (41?)

The original use of "Chinese hand," "Tang hand," “Chinese fist,” or "Chinese techniques" (depending on interpretation of 唐手) reflects the documented Chinese influence on karate. The first documented use of a homophone of the logogram pronounced kara by replacing the character meaning Tang Dynasty (唐 から) with the character meaning empty (空 から) took place in Karate Kumite. This is a book by Hanashiro Chōmo (1869–1945) which was published in August 1905. In the early 20th century Japan did not have good relations with China. In 1932 Japan attacked China and occupied its northern territory. At that time referring to Chinese origins of karate was considered politically incorrect. [26] - Wiki
