There is an illness in my family that I am concerned I have, and that I am shortly to get tested for. I have asked the Iching several times if I have the illness. Every time - and I mean every time - I have received hexagram 57, once unchanging, once with changing line 2.

Since this is an illness that hides and bides its time, this seems very negative to me. Might I be reading too negatively? Or might this be about my state of mind (paranoia)? Or maybe I should just get tested and forget oracular diagnosis.

Many thanks for any thoughts anyone has.

Hi gael123,

The Chinese ideogram of 57 shows two seals, placed side by side.
I looked at it, and, connected to your question, its symmetry brought to mind an image of DNA.

So 57 seems to me to be saying, yes, the illness is somewhere in your DNA.
However, having something in your DNA does not always mean that this will develop.

The fact that you had 57 with changing line 2 sound hopeful to me.
As LiSe puts it, "below the bed could mean accept it kneeling, humbly, reverently".
So, if you just succumb to fate, and 'kneel down' and wait for the disease, it might come (18).

57 also advises to adapt, and to see the great person (doctor).

There are many lifestyle choices, and medical help, available.
See what the test results say, and I'd say figure out a way to stay healthy.
Overall the answer is not bad and it does give hope for a good outcome.

All the doubts will go away after seeing the doctor (great man).

I think the test will be negative, so just go with the flow, along the line of a least resistance, like a wind does.
